Recently, some of my American friends inquired: "What if Alastair Fothergill was a redneck?" I believe their burning question is answered by this video :D

Cheers!

"Mother's Day" Dinner for Two..Texas Style!!

On a day like Mother's Day, it's time to take a reprieve from concerns about the future and reflect on those we love and care about.  This is what my wife asked for today......and yes there were also a dozen roses!!

Ivica,On Google  I zoomed in on the area north northwest of Irkutsk. The area looks like some large scale agriculture mixed with timbered land. I was wondering if spring burning of slash and stumps may be intentional. On google it looked like a fairly heavily populated area of Siberia. It looked like a nice place to stop and look around if I ever make the trans Siberian rail trip.

Bruce, a "bit" more to the west and you can visit Agafia.

Siberia intrigues me, what life in wilderness looks like there, people ... so the new topic.
Café is not good place for a longer discussion anyway, a weird geek/freak, who-knows-what could enter, attached ;)

Ivica, if you're interested in Siberian wildfires you may like to see Chris Hadfield's picture tweeted from the ISS on 29 April.
https://twitter.com/Cmdr_Hadfield/status/328821294474862592

While I was looking to find that one again, I came across this Russian wildfire monitoring site. I have to rely on Google translate, but it seems to be updated daily.

Some haunting photographs from Gideon Mendel's Drowning World

Quote
How do you produce art about climate change? Everyone from writers to painters to film-makers itch to grapple with this question – but often struggle, getting bogged down in the complicated science, or the worthiness of the subject. It's the same for photographers: "There's a real problem with the image of climate change; it's either evidence – 'the water was up to here, and now it's there' – or it's cute polar bears," says Gideon Mendel.

He has, however, been absorbed with an ongoing photographic project, zooming in on one aspect of climate change: flooding. Mendel's series, Drowning World, not only shows the effect of flooding on communities, but also encompasses traditional portraiture, and explores the often striking visuals such huge influxes of water produce.
Story in today's Independent
This exhibition looks worth a visit if you are going to be in London.
Gideon Mendel's Drowning World is at Tiwani Contemporary, London W1, 7 June to 27 July; tiwani.co.uk

It's always a good time to romanticize the great oudoors, especially with the approach of summertime in the north. Nothing like the vibes of Creedence Clearwater to put you in a time when all you want to do is laze by a river all day, shoot the breeze with everyone you meet, go off the grid, and enjoy the sunlight. Songs like these are always a good reminder of what we're fighting for in the wake of climate change.

I think this is the proper place for this in this forum: Univesity of Waterloo professor Lu uses statistics to prove Antarcic ozone hole is connected to the CFCs (normal) and what happens next might be a reason for a RealClimate post: http://phys.org/news/2013-05-global-chlorofluorocarbons-carbon-dioxide.html

This is what may happen if one uses only statistics and conviniently forgets the 1910-1940s warming.

Yes, that's why the Earth is warming. There's a hole in the atmosphere, and that's what's letting all the space-warmth in.

Butter burnt sum carbonne ta plug it. :P
