A new study that makes sense to me at least:

As the temperature gradient on the NH gets smaller due the arctic sea ice loss the study predicts northward movement of the ITCZ. This would likely mean a slight adjustment also in the location and effects of el Ninos/Ninas in my view. Also the southern parts of Sahara might get wetter. But I guess this brings no relief to the Australian drought. The news item is made from a press release so we'll have to wait a bit to read the study itself.

I will be reading that study.  Movement of the ITCZ has implications planet wide, especially in the location of the Hadley/Ferrell cells and location of the trade wind belts.

Note especially per first paragraph of section 5 that the Hadley cell/ITCZ changes are already happening.  This new study projects them into the future.

This is a fundamental change in circulation, and a very big deal.

Thanks for the paper Steve Bloom, how did you find a copy? Did you ask for it from the scientists?

Seems that the ITCZ will also narrow as the climate warms, as well as moving northwards. Together with the expansion of the Hadley cells, there will be a lot of extreme changes to local climates.

If the ice melt from Greenland greatly intensifies though, we could get an AMOC shutdown that would lead to a cooling northern hemisphere and a warming southern hemisphere. Paleoclimatology shows that this happened before, and the ITCZ moved south with the thermal equator in response.
