Walrus

One of the consequences of sea ice melt is walrus end up living on shore in the thousands. And that puts them at risk of polar bears and stampedes:

This used to be a rare event; now it's becoming an annual event, and happening ever earlier.

Re the walrus hauling out on land. Prior to a series of over enthusiastic slaughterings, walrus were common in the Gulf of St Lawrence, as far south as the Gulf of Maine, they were present in Iceland and Norway and Scotland. All of these populations had to contend with at least seasonally ice free conditions.
These were populations of Atlantic Walri (Walruses?) rather than Pacific, so that may make a difference. I'm not familiar with the historic range of the Pacific Walrus, although a friend recently harvested one in the Yukon River in Alaska.

This year a walrus has been touring around the British Isles, from Ireland, South Wales, Scilly Isles and even France, now turning up on the east coast? Far from ice but perhaps not so far from their old range?

Why is nobody helping this poor animal find his way home again? He's clearly lost, and a walrus is a social animal. So put this poor thing to sleep, and ship it back to where it belongs where it can join his friends again...
90% of the world is religious, but somehow "love thy neighbour" became "fuck thy neighbours", if they don't agree with your point of view.

WTF happened?

It can come and join this forum. It will have to pick another nickname, however.

We might need more moderators though, in that case.
