Help needed to get the split-zoom running again
« on: August 29, 2013, 09:27:28 PM »
Hi All,

some of you are aware of the tool I had running, which allows to compare NASA's Arctic mosaic day by day. So far about daily 700 high resolution images have been downloaded and re-tiled for serving over the Internet.

http://www.arctic.io/split-zoom/

Unfortunately the service in use stopped accepting new images a week ago. Apparently nobody at Microsoft is taking care of any longer. I have posted my frustration at the only support forum mentioned and hope that enough responses convince Microsoft to spend some more resources on the tool. I think at least it should continue until the minimum, the longer the better.

If you agree that it is unacceptable in these times to drop essential tools to visualize the Arctic dilemma, please, take 5 minutes and express your loss here:

https://getsatisfaction.com/livelabs/topics/is_zoom_it_going_to_die

Many thanks.

Done, and shared the grief on Facebook.

I've just found and "liked" your page on FB. I hope you will post about it there too. Maybe there are loads of us on here who are also on FB!

BTW, for "privacy reasons" FB wouldn't let me post the link direct to the Live Labs page so I had to circumlocute.

Any of you that haven't made use of the Split Zoom have been missing one of the greatest tools available for comparing ice melt through time. Arctic.io's Zoomed Arctic Map is another essential tool.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease so let's make some noise!

Folks, I do not want to be subsribed there (or to social networks mentioned there),
my answer is:
Quote
"Get emotional!" is what I read below. OK.
WTF is going on! If you are discontinuing that service you should have said that clearly long ago. Some people likes that, some people needs that. I'm not exception.

"How does this make you feel?" you ask. What do you think ?

BTW: Ditto, for both posters above.

I know, my post is of no help.
It is mainly for a***:
Once upon a time, I and a lot of other people (even exBorland) and even some corp people included (Corel) had hope that we can discontinue discontinuing "Paradox for Windows" product. Didn't work.
My point is: Try to get them to answer you but do not put much hope or efforts to that. Search for WorkAround.

Thanks to Anne, Neven, Terry and John. Looks like a good start. Just put the issue at HackerNews, perhaps Silicon Valley is going to upvote it, thinking like MS running out of harddisks, lol.

Ivica, ever googled disposable email addresses?  ;)

Wonderful news!!

The gaps appear to be filled so a continuous record is again available.
