Spammers have arrived!
« on: March 19, 2014, 02:37:01 PM »
Gah.

Another of my favourite blog sites has caught the attention of 'Cheap Kitchens' spammers.  Please get some help and try to upgrade your security or new user registration to keep them out.  They are a curse!

"Users" banned and posts removed...

I also changed the questions for the New Accounts, perhaps they manage to automate them ?

Thanks for your reports,

DM
This forum helps me to feel less uncomfortable about "doing something" about the melting Arctic and the warming world.

Thanks Ralph and others for reporting this. And thanks, DM, for cleaning up. I was out all day.

I'm not sure what how much spam you have to filter out via the approval process of first posts so take this with a grain of salt.

Would it be possible to set it up that you only need to approve the first posts that contain a link to the outside world? As that's the main purpose of spammers you might have less collateral damage like that.

The spam has come in waves so far, now it's relatively quiet again. I'm not sure whether what you propose is possible, but it sounds good.
