Milestones
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:12:57 PM »
I noticed that March has beaten the monthly record for page views, beating the July 2013 total of 466,108 with a new total of 505,510. I guess that makes March the most popular month for the forum so far and the first to beat the half million mark, so congrats to Neven, team and all!
Not bad for early Spring either.

That's total pageviews, and not unique veiws, right?

Wow, half a million in just one month. It could get busy when the melting season gets underway.

And it looks like the record for 'most online' has been broken today: 118. There's a really large number in the stats, but that's some sort of bug.

icefest, you can see the stats here. Or scroll down on the front page, until you the link to see 'more stats'.

118 is less than 694 so doesn't look like a record to me. I imagine the difference between users online 55 and most online of 694 is mainly due to search engine bots that can on occasion seem to proliferate wildly.

Neven, for me the most interesting statistic on the list is the male/female ratio. I had no idea that this was so predominently a male preserve.

My good wife of many years, who totally "gets" the importance of the issue and is way ahead of me in her search for a sustainable lifestyle commented when I asked her, "Well, you're totally obsessed weather and climate. I prefer simply to look out of the window!"

Maybe one or two of our few female colleagues would have a view. After all, women scientists are pretty influential in the field.

That's because women do all the work, while the men are chatting with each other and fantasizing about new projects.

Within 100 minutes, if not within the hour I expect 5,000,000 total page views to be reached.

Congratulations Neven.

Also another month, another record page views for the month: 517.6k so far this April vs record 505.5k for March 2014.

It doesn't necessarily mean human views though. I'm finding these forums seem vulnerable to an awful lot of bot activity... presumably because they're a standard and common implementation.

[EDIT] I checked out my numbers as my forum has almost no human activity - I'm showing an average of 1338 page views per day. I doubt even 1% of my page views are human ones. While I daresay ASIF has enough human traffic to shift that percentage a bit, I'm inclined to be cautious around celebrating any stat milestone in this area.

Likewise, I suspect this was the source of the anomalously high 694 most users online here - a rush of bots trying to sign up.

Has now been up to 42538 on 8th July 2014.

Congratulations on over 1,000,000 page views in a single month.

July finished with the highest number of pageviews for any month for this forum: 1335798

Also, I can't thank you enough for allowing regular members to view statistics! ;D Most forums don't allow that and it always irks me slightly.

And I wonder whether August will top July wrt page views.

August 2016 beat that with 1,369,954.

November 2016 easily passed that with 1,479,086. (Nov 2015 was particularly low so wipneus graph might be needed to explain this.)

It doesn't seem to have slowed down we have passed 1.5 million page views this month with more than 2 days to spare. 1515215 at time of posting.

Neven, you are too modest.  This is your garden, you're the gardener.  It's flourished, only because you've provided the soil, you've seeded it, you've pulled out the weeds, you've fenced out the predators.  All with the patience of Job and a diligence and perseverance seen only rarely in this world.

Last month finished with a new record high number of views: 2,335,505 (2.335.505 for Euros :P )

One interesting fact is that the number of posts per day/month has not been increasing despite the massive increases in pageviews, meaning less scientifically inclined people are viewing this forum but not posting or registering, which I think is a good thing, as it means the forum is gaining a wider reach while not getting new, malicious posters.

In February 2017, I noted that I had provided almost exactly 1 in every 9.5 posts on the ASIF.  Now in August 2017, there are 1,298 members and my posting ratio has fallen to almost exactly one in every 10 posts on the ASIF.  Thus, as the sun slowly sets on my posting ratio empire, I thought that I had better note that this is my 12345th post, as I am not likely to reach any comparable posting ratios in the future (due to the most excellent growth in ASIF membership).

Somehow I don't think it's correct, but have no idea what caused the surge.

I don't think it's Californians or any other conspiracy theory that caused that surge here on ASIF, but let's see if a short history of other milestones had any effect on Californian lifestyles:
Manabe and Wetherald 1967 (no need for a description)
Ramanathan and Coakley 1978 (no need for a description)
Jule Charney et al 1979 (ECS ~3° you know)
James Hansen 1988 (no need for a description)
JD Neelin et al 2013 (drought you know)
Etc, etc x1000...

Let's see:

https://www.iaee.org/en/publications/ejarticle.aspx?id=2850&id=2850

According to my anecdotal and non-exhaustive research, this post by A-Team when he made a comeback in the 2020 melting season holds the highest number of Likes, currently at 25 (I swear it was 26 but someone unknown recently deleted their account).

Gerontocrat just hit the sweet 12007 posts milestone.
The secret code is 12 for 12/12 months of ice graphs and 007 to spy on it in her majesties secret service or so i presume.  :)

It is also a prime.  :)

Þetta minnismerki er til vitnis um að við vitum hvað er að gerast og hvað þarf að gera. Aðeins þú veist hvort við gerðum eitthvað.
