Elon Musk "Open Sources" Tesla Patents

Yesterday, there was a wall of Tesla patents in the lobby of our Palo Alto headquarters. That is no longer the case. They have been removed, in the spirit of the open source movement, for the advancement of electric vehicle technology.

What if someone put Riversimple and Tesla technology together? A Tesla Roadster with far less weight to carry around?

I note any number of US "News" organisations proclaiming things like:

"The Tesla Model S just became the world’s first open-source car."

That's not true for several reasons. Most notably it's not the first, and it's not really "open source" either.
