Another grand outlet glacier of Greenland this time Walterhausens Gletscher (width at calving front ~ 11 km), is showing signs of retreat, not only the calving front is retreating, but also signs of thinning, a new island is popping up at the present calving front and the islands inside the glacier is getting larger, notice the reduced area of the ice cap (Blokken) on the hill (Himmelbjerget 1400 meter) to the left, all signs of a warmer weather in the district.

One of the very large outlet-glaciers of Greenland is Waltershausen Gletscher or the "Gentle Giant" , living a slowly life up in the outskirts of East Greenland, is somehow showing the strength is not what it used to be but, notice the rock island in the middle of the glacier, is growing, that means the glacier is thinning!
