Commercial Hydrate Drilling
« on: November 06, 2014, 09:16:05 PM »
This just in:

Japan, U.S. to launch joint research on methane hydrate

Quote
Japan and the United States agreed Thursday to launch joint research into the development of methane hydrate, an energy source also known as burning ice.

Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp. signed a memorandum of understanding in Tokyo with the National Energy Technology Laboratory of the U.S. Energy Department.

In a five-year program in northern Alaska starting in 2015, they will conduct joint research into mining technology that may lead to commercial production of the next-generation energy source.

On another thread, don't know why Anne called me a conspiracy theorist for bringing up methane clathrate fossil fuel extraction. Its been worked on for a while now by our stupid governments.

Schätzing's 2004 cli–fi novel The Swarm is about commercial methane extraction, so not exactly a novelty :)

So Schätzing:

Quote

Very next day, the International Arctic Research Center (IARC) server is down for several hours.

Sounds like a conspiracy :)
