I continue to appreciate your weekly graphs, BFTW, just as you publish them.  Thanks.

I've seen graphs comparing current rates of change that would help me put your 'Nov 2014 has the 17th smallest increase' into perspective by graphing the Extent 'deltas' from each year's Nov 1 (with a stretched vertical scale)- I think this would capture both the '17th lowest net slope this year' as well as making it easier to compare individually colored years (how does this month this year compare with same month in 2013, '12, '07, etc.)(With most lines quozy-parallel in your Nov. NSIDC Extent graph, it is hard for me to detect differences - maybe the differences are so little it doesn't matter?)

On the '7 Day Extent Change' graph, with the yellow 2014-15 line mostly above the purple 2013-14, I presume that Nov 2013 average daily change to the 22nd was less then 2014.  Would my suggested graph show this?

I think I get what you mean. I'll try play around with a few new graphs and post up some results during the week.

8th lowest December to-date average.
8th lowest value for the date.

6th lowest, according to my graph.

Which data are you using? My numbers come from here:

http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/seaice/extent/plot_v2.csv

...which shows the following line

12,02,12195666,11731207,11044904,11361354,11017314,11264560,10847873,10107765,10403475,11083844,10799912,10322333,10571268,10528469,10965289,10953020

So:

1) 2006
2) 2010
3) 2007
4) 2012
5) 2011
6) 2009
7) 2006
8) 2014

2006 1st and 7th??? is one of these 2005?

looks like Viddaloo has only plotted 2007 onwards missing 2005? and 2006

That's right, 2005 and 06 are in there. And yes, I forgot the pre–iPhone years could still compete in this game!  ;D

PS: I see now that 2006 starts a giant drop almost at the beginning of this graph (left), and thereby somehow prepares the record 2007 season. That's interesting.

Hmmmmm... «NOTICE: We are having technical difficulties receiving the input data for MASIE from the data provider. The issue is being investigated. Contact NSIDC User Services with questions.»

NSIDC's extent data end rather abruptly on day 316, which is November 12th, so there appears to be some sort of collapse in sea ice extent documentation. The odds of this occurring for weeks on end at NSIDC, and also occurring at IJIS, for purely non–political reasons are of course extremely low?

Thx, Crandles!  ;D

PS: Huge increase, almost twice that of the day before (twice the delta). I guess that is the huge spread of ice between Greenland and Iceland, as seen on the Bremen map?

That with almost complete certainty is false positive ice generated by the intense storm currently smashing into Great Britain.  Climate Reanalyzer had 80+ knot winds ripping south along that stretch of the Greenland coast a day or so ago.

Nah, you missed nothing. That particular line is the only one in the summary that isn't yet automated, and I inadvertently mis-typed the daily rank. The 1st and the 4th were 4th place, while the 2nd and the 3rd were in 5th. Apologies for the error...  ;)
