Many of us have been following this story elsewhere, and in fact have been re-posting links similar to the one you did.  This is the first time I've stumbled across your thread.

It is a sad and terrible loss; it is good that a recovery is being attempted; the dog was already rescued.  Hopefully we will able to put two brave brilliant men to their proper rest.

Wow, just stumbled in here as well by chance.
I could not believe how our Dutch media failed to report this so i googled it in Dutch just to be sure.
It looks like it was indeed hardly mentioned, 1 major newspaper is all that popped up with a little article.
