NOAA Reanalysis Finds No Hiatus
« on: June 04, 2015, 08:19:42 PM »
From NOAA:

Science publishes new NOAA analysis: 'The Recent Global Surface Warming Hiatus: Fact or Artifact?'; Data show no recent slowdown in global warming

http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2015/noaa-analysis-journal-science-no-slowdown-in-global-warming-in-recent-years.html

Quote
A new study published online today in the journal Science finds that the rate of global warming during the last 15 years has been as fast as or faster than that seen during the latter half of the 20th Century. The study refutes the notion that there has been a slowdown or "hiatus" in the rate of global warming in recent years.

The story at The Guardian:

Global warming hasn't paused, study finds; Reassessment of historical data and methodology by US research body debunks ‘hiatus’ hypothesis used by sceptics to undermine climate science

The key point from the NOAA story:

Quote
Compared to ships, buoys provide measurements of significantly greater accuracy. "In regards to sea surface temperature, scientists have shown that across the board, data collected from buoys are cooler than ship-based data," said Dr. Thomas C. Peterson, principal scientist at NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information and one of the study's authors. "In order to accurately compare ship measurements and buoy measurements over the long-term, they need to be compatible. Scientists have developed a method to correct the difference between ship and buoy measurements, and we are using this in our trend analysis."

Yes....truly shocking:)  Who would have guessed that since CO2 levels and methane levels rising and causing ocean temperatures to rise, ice sheets to melt, permafrost to melt....causing even more CO2 and methane to be released into the atmosphere......that we would have continued rising temperatures in the world.  Would could have POSSIBLY guessed that?

Next thing you know.....they'll be telling me that second hand smoke is really bad for you too.

Anyone have a light.....:)

i've probably seen 20 papers refute the "hiatus" (which was never even a hiatus anyway since their complaint is temperatures aren't rising AS FAST as models predicted).  maybe this one paper will FINALLY put it to rest..... but probably not.  i think we need to start a meme of a temperature graph going up (not too hard to find, i'm sure) with the line "what hiatus?"  and then just post that every time a denier mentions it.

A course on denial ! very interesting, you won't get the certificate but still available.

1) the facts
2) expose the myth
3) Debunk the myth

For those wanting a "different angle" on the recent NOAA reanalysis.....here is a good article (if someone hasn't posted it elsewhere)....

...i'm sure the UK Met Office ,GISS, RSS,and UAH will soon "re-adjust" the data to show no slowdown as well.....
