Well, I was about to post the note below, but I couldn't because: "Safari cannot open the page because it could not establish a secure connection to the server."  Will try again.

FWIW i'm on safari without issues, perhaps i miss the point but thought it worth to mention because if i'm not mistaken that means safari is not the culprit but perhaps the way it is set up?

Good to know.  I didn't say anything yesterday because I figured the odds were the problem was at my end -- but Forum functions were markedly muddier than the reasonably peppy response I normally get.  Things are much better today, but not entirely without issues.

perhaps clearing cache and junk helps from time to time, try this:

Sidd, I've alerted DungeonMaster to the existence of this thread. Maybe he knows what could be causing your problem. As you seem to be the only one, the problem may be on your end, but I have no idea what it could be. The only thing that happened to me a couple of times recently, is the warning-not-trusted-no-security-certificate message, even though I marked the ASIF as an exception in Firefox.

Hope this thing gets resolved or goes away soon for you.

Sorry for not noticing your call for help before.


I have no real idea about what might happen - are you using the forum from your company office (=possibly behind a strong firewall or proxy), or at home with a standard, basic connexion?


Anyway, it's only useful to use httpS during login, while entering your password, so it can't be stolen; after you're connected, you can use http only, this creates no security issue.

https is broken even during login. SSL handshake failed is the error message. No proxy server in use. Firewall config unchanged before and after the problem arose. Will try thru other locations and carriers and report.

i am finding it all but impossible to upload even the simplest attachment files today even though there is a very fast connection here. It stalls for 10 minutes showing "sending request to forum.arctic-sea-ice.net" rarely showing "waiting for ..." I've tried sending in a second window, different browsers etc (be lucky if this plain text posts). Not an https issue; it is working seamlessly now, four hours later.

My theory is everyone in tech goes home on noon Friday (if not Thursday), the servers get jammed, QA pings of the site sets of alarm bells but no one is there to hear them ring, eventually the tech person checks email for match.com leads and notices the server has been jammed for four hours, reboots it remotely and gets on with their weekend.

i can now use https using Yet Another Browser. Webkit base browsers still seem to fail ssl handshake. Speed seems ok.

Also, the Forum now has it's own official ssl certificate, so this will also help a lot!

If only you could do that for a load of uni sites.  I frequently visit uni sites for research purposes: you would be surprised how often Firefox throws a wobbly and puts up an in-your-face dire warning.  I have to make an exception every visit because I run a sandbox, so every time I shut down, all those exceptions evaporate.  Along with all or any malware, natch!

Does that mean people will no longer receive security warnings? That would be great. All I would then have to do, is change the links on the ASIG and remember to refer to https version pages when linking to ASIF on the ASIB.

Will this help people find us at Google Search? Seems like GS finds the images and finds the texts but doesn't put them together properly.

So:
- I installed a real certificate
- switched the whole forum to https... no more http, and this should also help with uploading images (unless the server is now really toooo busy?) and indexing through search engines...

Update: I uploaded a 5mb photo right now, it was fast.

Hmm that looks like an Opera problem. Actually the server has 2 certificates, 1st one for the domain, 2nd for the provider. See https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=forum.arctic-sea-ice.net to check validity.
Opera complains at second... I think this won't create any real trouble; and the main thing is that all data, logins... are protected.
