..one must suppose the conversation (of it)((, as)) irrelevant?
..
But I left school and grew my hair
They didn't understand
They wanted me to be respected as
A doctor or a lawyer man
But I had other plans..........

Typo alert. But yes, to an extent... there may be too great a focus on the yardstick placed by 2012 in a lot of analysis of the melting trend.

It's not an experiment so data shouldn't be ignored but when talking to non scientists (ie the press) the qualifier that, based on on short term observation, is just as important as any prediction.

However long term trends if they continue barring some major misunderstanding of the environment indicate a dwindling Summer ice sheet. Full stop.

This 'question' doesn't warrant a topic of its own, even if it has three question marks. Besides, we don't know yet whether 2102 will be an outlier or not. But we'll know in 86 years.  ;)
