Torturer for CIA head. Quite appropriate. After Bitkowski and now Haspel, i am beginning to wonder if any of the women at senior level in the CIA are not torturers.

Giuliani ? Giuliani ?! What could go wrong ?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/giuliani-says-he-is-joining-trumps-legal-team-to-negotiate-an-end-to-mueller-probe/2018/04/19/b175fc10-4411-11e8-8569-26fda6b404c7_story.html

The article did reveal that he had been hiding out at Greenberg Traurig. I dealt with them some decades ago and they were a wretched hive of villainy then too.

Below is a map of "Trump Job Approval By State" from Gallup.  Trump's job approval in Gallup is now 39%.

The following article discusses the 10 senate seats that are "most likely" to flip and why.  The Democrats certainly have their work cut out for them...

I don't think Trump's not-quite-abysmal polling doesn't necessarily translate into less-awful news for the Repubs in November.

Trump's not a standard Repub.  I think Trump's polling improvement derives from starting a trade war with China, and with shooting missiles at Syria.  Quite a few Americans seem to like assertive, muscular action, even when it's stupid.

These are not actions that the Congressional Repubes have clamored for.  These aren't bog-standard Republican approaches.

As evidence, I'd point to 538.com's "generic ballot."  Still quite a good gap between R and D, and no recent notable narrowing, despite Trump's uptick:
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/congress-generic-ballot-polls/

And then there's the enthusiasm gap.  Dem's are fired up right now, Repub voters are largely demoralized.

RE:  North Korea shut down of nuclear test site and shut down of all nuclear tests.

1). Talking is good ..... much better than fighting.
2). However, the nuclear test site that was "shut down" was likely unusable for future tests.  There were already expectations after the last test at this site that it was about to collapse.  And collapse it did....

https://www.thedailybeast.com/report-200-dead-in-cave-in-at-north-korea-nuclear-test-site

3). Resumption of testing by North Korea could re-start at any time.  So while a temporary stopping of testing IS a good thing .... and a "first logical step" ..... the difficult task of actually reducing missles and warhead capability hasn't started yet.
4). The North and South Koreans meet over the next week or two.  The new South Korean president has taken the step of NOT requiring "reunification" of North and South Korea.  That step of his is welcomed by the current North Korean regime, obviously.
5). If I am North Korea ..... I see my two largest neighbors of China and Russia who have maintained their leadership stranglehold over their countries, but still have a large degree of interaction (including trade) with the rest of the world.  PERHAPS ..... Kim sees the same possibility with North Korea. PERHAPS.

6). So how would Traitor Don use this opportunity?  For instance, could he use it to "move the goal posts" regarding collusion/conspiracy with the Russians during the 2016 election ONE LAST TIME?

Could he convince enough Republicans that, yes ..... perhaps his campaign did in fact know about the Russian interference, and did some things helpful to the Russians regarding the timing and release .... and did maintain some communication with them ..... BUT look what "I" have done to bring about peace on the North Korean Peninsula.

Possible.   The current situation may also provide the background for him to try and shut down the Mueller investigation via ousting Rosenstein, and then Jeff Sessions quitting ...... and then Donnie moving someone into Sessions AG spot that is more likely to curtail or limit the Mueller investigation.  After all he can't try to negotiate peace on the Peninsula, something that has been attained by any other administration, with this "Witch Hunt" going on at the same time ..... therefore he has to shut it down for the good of the country.

Maybe Donnie thinks he could then ride out any future trial in the Senate should the House bring impeachment proceedings IF the House majority passes to the Dems in November.

It's hard to get in the mind of a sociopath like Donald.  But the Mueller investigation is still out there with lots of dirty laundry to be aired yet ...... and Stormy doesn't appear to be going away any time soon.  And now the DNC has stepped in with their own CIVIL lawsuit which will require all kinds of discovery of the RNC as well as Donnie.

Fascinating stuff.  Coming months are going to be amazing.  What is on the Michael Cohen tapes and in his office is one of the keys.  The other key of course is what information does Mueller already have on money laundering and conspiracy, and the RNC working with the Russians, etc.  And will Michael Cohen flip?

Buckle up ....

The numbers below will need to worsen in coming months for impeachment to proceed.

Quote
A national survey, conducted by Marist for NPR and PBS, found 47 percent of registered voters would definitely vote against a candidate who wanted to remove Trump from office, while 42 percent said such a promise would earn their vote. That's a sobering reminder given House district lines that have been tilted to GOP advantage around the country by Republican-run state legislatures — and a 2018 Senate lineup that puts 10 Democratic incumbents up for re-election in states Trump won in 2016.

I suspect there will be TWO major things that will push those numbers to worsen for Traitor Trump:

1)  The continuing onslaught of information that comes out from both the Stormy Daniels/Michael Cohen case, as well as additional information and indictments in the Mueller investigation.

2) A weak stock market that continues its tortuous journey DOWN over the coming months.  If economic numbers weaken as well ..... that will not be good for Traitor Don.

America's finest news source on the DNC lawsuits:

"Our lawsuit lays out, in no uncertain terms, that the nation should never under any circumstances move on from the 2016 election results"

"the American people have a right to publicly re-litigate Hillary Clinton’s defeat and promote far-reaching conspiracy theories instead of concentrating on anything remotely politically constructive for the next few decades at least"

"At press time, DNC officials were calling for an emergency legal injunction to block the nation from learning absolutely anything from the 2016 election."

One of the headwinds that I felt Trump would face THIS YEAR is a declining stock market.  And two people I pay attention to are Mark Mobius and Robert Schiller.  Mobius is an 80 year old investor that has been around the block a few times.  I like people with more experience than me, especially when they have a good track record.  I PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THEM.

Schiller....who I have mentioned before, is a "behavioral economist."  BOTH of them are bearish right now (as am I) on the US stock market.

Here's a good article from Mobius:

https://finance.yahoo.com/m/dc2e549e-ef4b-3f21-8e69-e563375e2443/mobius-says-there%E2%80%99s-a-30%25.html

As the market was starting its correction in late January/early February ..... I maintained that I believe there is a GOOD CHANCE that the S&P could dip BELOW 2,000 (1,800 - 2,000 was the range that I gave back in February I believe).

Along with an expected decline in the stock market, I also said there is a good chance that the guns issue REALLY HAS LEGS THIS TIME.... and I believe it will NOT die out (in fact, I think it will grow stronger ...... those pesky facts just NEVER LEAVE).

The two other issues I believe that I mentioned....was the on-going Mueller investigation and the good probability that the sea ice levels (both in the Arctic and globally) will once again be at new record lows come the end of this summer.

Could be a rough 6 months for Traitor Donnie....  It really is tough when you swim against the tide of facts and science.

Ken White on why DNC invocation of RICO may be a bad idea:

"federal judges hate RICO"

"it's very difficult to allege RICO properly, and unusually easy to get a RICO claim dismissed for failure to allege it properly"

"alleging RICO usually gives the defense a weapon"

"RICO is more bark than bite"

"legally, your complaint appears drafted in a way that will be unnecessarily easy to attack in court"

read the whole thing. White has been banging on about RICO for a long time. He has some useful links, too.

From this MAY to OCTOBER....things will be "shaking and baking".

1) May 12th deadline when Donnie has to decide whether to "fish or cut bate" relative to the Iran nuclear deal.

https://www.facebook.com/pg/PalmerReport/posts/

2)  US Embassy to be opened in Jerusalem in May.  Palestinians are NOT happy campers.

https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-5128246,00.html

3) May/June:  Talks with North Korea

4)  Mueller investigation and Cohen investigation continue and deepen

5)  Stock market is going likely to continue its zigzag downward slide into the fall (September/October)

6) Supreme Court revisits "Lucia vs Securities and Exchange Commission" case for possible "broadening" or inclusion of people like.... special counsels.

7)  Campaigns continue for the upcoming November election.

SO.....there are a LOT of fans going.....and there is a LOT of SH*IT.... and we all know what happens when those two get together. ???

I wonder if Trump will now be looking for a new best friend?

U.S. weekly jobless claims fall to lowest level since 1969

First of all....its GREAT that jobless claims are very low.  That is GOOD news.  BUT.... you also have to understand that part of the low jobless claims (and this applies SINCE ABOUT 1980) ..... is that part of the reason that the unemployment rate is low ..... is because there are many more people locked up in jail.  Again.... this applies since the 1980's (the "War on Drugs" that started in the 1970's and continues to this day.... is a BIG REASON).

I won't get off on a tangent about our HORRIBLE prison system in the US ..... just be aware that if you added back the millions of people in jail on minor drug charges .... the numbers for ALL RECENT PRESIDENTS wouldn't look nearly as good on the unemployment front.

Quote
WASHINGTON, (Reuters) - New applications for U.S. unemployment benefits dropped to their lowest level in more than 48 years last week, suggesting that March's slowdown in job growth was probably temporary.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 24,000 to a seasonally adjusted 209,000 for the week ended April 21, the lowest level since December 1969, the Labor Department said on Thursday. Data for the prior week was revised to show 1,000 more applications received than previously reported.

The Trump Administration is demonstrating clear disrespect for the law by apparently trying to pervert the FISA court system to the extent that the FISA court denied a record number of their surveillance requests:

Republican majority House committee finds russia interfered, but no collusion:

"none of the interviewed witnesses provided evidence of collusion, coordination, or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government."

"found no evidence that President Trump's pre-campaignbusiness dealings formed the basis for collusion during the campaign."

"The change in the Republican Party platform regarding Ukraine resulted in a stronger position against Russia, not a weaker one, and there is no evidence that Paul Manafort was involved."

"no evidence that Trump associates were involved in the theft or publication of Clinton campaign-related emails ..."

"Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort attended a June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower where they expected to receive-but did not ultimately obtain-derogatory information on candidate Clinton from Russian sources."

"found no evidence that meetings between Trump associates-including Jeff Sessions-and official representatives of the Russian government-including Ambassador Kislyak-reflected collusion, coordination, or conspiracy with the Russian government."

and lotsa other findings.

Donald Trump reminds me of the Cleveland Browns.  Cleveland has been HORRIBLE over the past decade or more..... and they keep squandering the #1 draft pick in the draft for someone that turns out to be a bust.

They took Johnny Manzel in the first round a few years ago ..... and he was an absolute bust.  Why?  Several reasons ..... but the PRIMARY reason was his attitude (yes....  he was an alcoholic which also didn't help).

But he was ALWAYS a "loose cannon" in college ..... and he didn't change when he got into the pros.  He could get away with a lot of the stuff in college ..... but he couldn't get away with it in the pros (just like Trump.... who got away with a lot when he ran his small company).  Can you believe that the University of Oregon had BOTH Manzel AND Marcus Mariota as QB commitments before Mazel backed out and went to Texas A&M?  Thank God...

So who do the Cleveland Browns pick with the #1 draft pick this year?  Another head case in Baker Mayfield.  Much like Mazel.  And I predict he will be a bust...... just like Manzel.  You can't teach DECISION MAKING AND ETHICS:  Either you have it, or you don't.

The management of Cleveland is a LOT like Donald Trump (BAD).  And when you have bad management .....whether it is in sports, business, or politics ..... BAD THINGS HAPPEN.

Trump's administration will continue to unwind in unpredictable fashion until he is ushered out of office.....

We already knew that Trump was pro big banks and pro international fossil fuel companies, but now it it turns out he is also pro global pharmaceutical companies. And he gave them all a nice tax break too.

So it turns out : Trump is an industrial globalist. No matter his "America First" BS.
This is our planet. This is our time.
Let's not waste either.

RE:  The "test site" that North Korea has been so kind to close ahead of the talks with Traitor Don.

BEIJING—A large part of North Korea’s underground nuclear test facility, which leader Kim Jong Un pledged to close, is unusable anyway due to the collapse of a cavity inside the mountain after the last blast there, Chinese scientists say.

Seismologists involved in a soon-to-be-published study also warned that another blast in the same spot and with similar yield could cause “environmental catastrophe.”

‘Ready, shoot, aim’: President Trump’s loyalty tests cause hiring headaches

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ready-shoot-aim-president-trumps-loyalty-tests-cause-hiring-headaches/2018/04/29/7756ec9c-4a33-11e8-827e-190efaf1f1ee_story.html?noredirect=on

I take exception to "ready" being the first word..... it is much more like "Fire, Ready, Aim".

But is it any surprise AT ALL ..... that Traitor Don has a hard time hiring ANYONE of any substance and ability into his den of thieves?  His administration is a real cluster of crap.  My only surprise is that he has found so many people without any ethics or morals.

With the firing of the House Chaplin by Paul Ryan ....... the Republicans CONTINUE to expose themselves for who they have become over the last X decades.  It shows that the Republican politicians are nothing more than FAKE CHRISTIANS ...... using anything and anyone to push along their agenda for the ultra-rich and pro-business (anti consumer, anti health, etc).  Trump is just a "most handy vessel" to push along their agenda, and many of them will support him to their own grave come re-election time.

As I have said a couple times before ...... the Republicans have become OWNED by the lobbyists (who Paul Ryan will be working FOR after his term ends).

The firing of the House Chaplin is just one more indication that they will do ANYTHING for their lobbyist's.

I hear Drumpf asked for suggestions as to where he should meet Kim Jong. I could suggest a long meeting on a slowest freight train through Russia from North Korea border to Belarussian border, but I doubt the imperator reads any sites involving climate issues.

Couple things to watch CLOSELY over the next few weeks:

1)  Looks like Traitor Don, Netanyahu, and Bolton may be cooking up the POSSIBILITY OF A STRIKE on Iran in the coming weeks/months.  Just something to keep a VERY CLOSE EYE ON. Donnie has his war cabinet in place ..... and ready to go.  And remember.... Netanyahu needs a war/clash just as bad as Donnie does.  Netanyahu is also in "legal peril" in Israel ...... as much as Donnie is in the US.

https://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Benjamin-Netanyahu/Netanyahu-to-address-country-with-dramatic-news-about-Iran-Monday-night-553120

2)  Korea and Iran do NOT operate in a vacuum.  With Donnies meeting in a few weeks coinciding with the termination of the Iranian/US deal ....... that gives Donnie the cover to "look like a peaceful guy", at the same time he is either working WITH Israel OR giving Israel the "go ahead" to attack Iran on its own.

Keep in mind that Iran and Korea have worked together in the past, and may continue to work together now, on nuclear issues.

This might belong on several threads, but here is a woman born in 1945. She might be misled on several matters but she voices some hard and indubitable truths. The host considerately lets her exceed her time, and the video is 24 minutes long. Too long for some on this forum, but I suggest you listen to the whole thing.

They know they're getting sold down the river by both sides. They might not grasp the finer points of the swindle, but they can see they're getting screwed.

She's obviously been paying attention for a long time.

Trump has been mentally ill all of his life and thus has become skilled at distorting the reality around him so that he can more easily achieve his distorted goals.  Unfortunately, the courts and press have not learned how to deal with an abnormal president, and all of society will suffer as a consequence,  Hopefully, Mueller's decades of dealing with the distortions of organized crime with help him to hold Trump accountable for his abuses to America's legal system:

Traitor Don is going to have some REAL problems on his hands.  I see that he is "postponing" the steel traiff's.  I think Donnie is worried about pushing the economy into recession..... and he is right to worry.

The stock market is likely headed for a further nasty zig zag down AT LEAST over the coming 5 - 6 months (if not longer).  And with gasoline prices elevated ...... and oil prices elevated (for the time being) that also puts a crimp on the economy.  Higher metals prices would NOT be such a hot idea.

Am looking for the US S&P 500 to head towards 2,300 - 2,400 before it bounces again ..... but in the longer term ..... I still expect to see 1,800 - 2,000 level (and there is a GOOD chance that it could happen by this coming fall).

Traitor Don is really going to have his hands full .....

If you think that Trump has a normal healthy mental condition, then think again, and while you're at it think about the mental state of all the Trump-wannabes, that his movement is spawning:

Title: "Here Is the Psychological Condition That Best Explains Trump's Twisted Worldview"

https://www.alternet.org/here-psychological-condition-best-explains-trumps-twisted-worldview

Extract: "A neutral psychological assessment of his motivations wouldn't rule out the possibility that he ran for president because he was frustrated to see other people winning more than he was. He saw dictators around the world who had amassed more billions and had more power than he did. He realized that if he really wanted to win, he might do the same.

Read between the lines, his worldview goes something like this:

Life is nothing but a dog-eat-dog game. The only value is being top dog. Winning is its own reward and the only reward. The power you gain by winning isn’t for anything else. Winners play the game undistracted by other values. All other supposed values are just means to that end. Duping others into thinking you care about other values, like welfare or making America great again, is how you play to win. Losers lose because they’re distracted by other values. To win, you need to use other people’s values against them. Other values are the loser’s handicap. You can get them to help you win by convincing them that you care about what they care about.

...
Both law and business are cultures prone to saturation with pathological climbers. The more there are, the more there will be, since competing with them is difficult when your hands are tied with other values. The traditionally pro-business Republican Party is the party likeliest to experience a surge in pathological climbing as it is today.

Social conservatism was a strange bedfellow, especially to libertarianism. How can you be for small government and yet want to impose social morality topdown? Cold War anti-communism and libertarianism slept well together since communism is the opposite of libertarianism. Still, one could hardly call the Soviet Union communist. It was communist in name only, much as Trump’s campaign was really about making America great again. More accurately, the Soviet Union was game-killing crony plutocracy, as is Russia today.

And as the U.S. could be soon, if we don’t get better at identifying what kills the game. It's not communism, which as a theory is very much a distracting value; and it's not political correctness, globalization or regulation, which are game levelers. Rather what kills the game pathological climbing, impressive compulsive disorder, the source of runaway inequality and a return to animal impulse unfettered by humanitarian values.

Trump must have something to hide if he had Keith Schiller confiscate his medical records from his own doctor on February 3, 2017, likely without a proper medical (HIPAA) release form signed by Trump.  This also implicates Ronny Jackson in a possible effort by the WH to hide Trump's true medical condition:

Title: "Trump doc says Trump bodyguard, lawyer 'raided' his office, took medical files"

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-doc-says-trump-bodyguard-lawyer-raided-his-office-took-n870351

Extract: "In February 2017, a top White House aide who was Trump's longtime personal bodyguard, along with the top lawyer at the Trump Organization and a third man, showed up at the office of Trump's New York doctor without notice and took all the president's medical records.

The incident, which Dr. Harold Bornstein described as a "raid," took place two days after Bornstein told a newspaper that he had prescribed a hair growth medicine for the president for years.

In an exclusive interview in his Park Avenue office, Bornstein told NBC News that he felt "raped, frightened and sad" when Keith Schiller and another "large man" came to his office to collect the president's records on the morning of Feb. 3, 2017. At the time, Schiller, who had long worked as Trump's bodyguard, was serving as director of Oval Office operations at the White House.

Bornstein said he was not given a form authorizing the release of the records and signed by the president —known as a HIPAA release — which is a violation of patient privacy law. A person familiar with the matter said there was a letter to Bornstein from then-White House doctor Ronny Jackson, but didn't know if there was a release form attached."

Are doctors in the States now allowed to discuss the kinds of medicines they're prescribing to various patients? In days gone by that would have been dealt with quite harshly.

Meh.  He'd prepared two letters for Trump to be publicly released.  By my view he'd effectively gotten an informal release--though perhaps not in formal compliance with law.  Possible legal/professional jeopardy there.

The NYT article about the interviews is here:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/01/us/politics/trump-prostate-drug-hair-harold-bornstein.html

I doubt any kind of release he might have been considered to have was valid at this later date; he could be in some trouble for this.

A strong-arm seizure of Trump's records is highly problematic.  I suspect the intimidation to seize these was a crime.  The doctor should have called the police rather than complying.

Those seizing the records would, I think, be facing more serious legal repercussions, even if Trump himself had requested the action.

The SDNY US Attorney might be looking at this matter as we speak.

Any idea who legally owns those records?

When I moved back to Canada my doctor here contacted my doctor there and all of my records were transferred. If I had asked for them they would have charged something per page for providing them. It was many thousands of pages so the doctor to doctor transfer was a savings.

I'd assume that if someone was unable to travel he could send someone to pick up his records as long as that someone could prove that he was acting on the patient's behalf. Would a phone call from the patient be enough? Aren't patient records stored in a digital format now?
