"The U.S. has an extradition treaty with the U.K. and the U.K. can decide whether to honor Mueller's request ..."

Wait, what ?

1)  I am aware of rape charges in Sweden and evasion of bail in the UK as charges against Assange.
2) There is supposedly a sealed grand jury indictment in the USA against Assange but prior to Mueller
3) Assange has reportedly been asked to testify to US senate.

Is there now an assertion that Assange is facing criminal charges from Mueller for interference in the 2016 US election ? I have seen no evidence for that yet.

sidd
Obviously, Mueller is legally required to maintain a 'cone-of-silence' about his plans for Julian, so going to the next most knowledgeable source, who is free to talk; Assange's lawyer fears possible extradition to the U.S..  At least the article makes it crystal clear that negotiations are on-going between Ecuador and Britain on this subject:

Title: "Assange in 'solitary confinement' at embassy, fears possible extradition to US, lawyer says"

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/assange-solitary-confinement-embassy-fears-extradition-us-lawyer/story?id=57018760

Extract: ""We are obviously very concerned about the media speculation and the reports of sources within the Ecuadorian government speaking of an imminent ending of the asylum and protection," Robinson said.

"We are obviously concerned about what the terms of [continuing negotiations between the Ecuadorian and British governments] are -- we're not party to them," Robinson added. "They were updated on them and our concern is and has always been the risk of extradition to the United States so an assurance about protecting him from U.S. extradition and facing prosecution for WikiLeaks publications in the U.S. is our priority." It looks like Omarosa  has plenty of tapes to leak, all the way to the midterm elections:

This 'agreement' reached at the July Helsinki summit, provides a nice cover for Trump to build-up U.S. arms in the Middle East prior to a possible major assault on Iran before the 116th U.S. Congress is seated in January of 2019:

More circumstantial evidence that Trump is a Kremlin asset:

Title: "House Of Trump, House Of Putin: The Untold Story Of Donald Trump And The Russian Mafia"

https://www.nationalmemo.com/house-trump-house-putin-russian-mafia/

Extract: "Long before the American president’s disgraceful groveling before his Russian counterpart at the Helsinki summit, millions wondered: Just what does Vladimir Putin have on Donald Trump? Now author and journalist Craig Unger reveals decades of hidden history to answer that question in his new book House of Trump, House of Putin: The Untold Story of Donald Trump and the Russian Mafia — which examines Trump’s many connections to the Russian mob, and how those financial dealings resulted in an American presidency that is a Kremlin asset."

This is how a malevolent narcissist thinks:

Title: "Furious Trump told advisers that he wants Jeff Sessions to arrest Omarosa over her book: report"

https://www.rawstory.com/2018/08/furious-trump-told-advisers-wants-jeff-sessions-arrest-omarosa-book-report/

According to one of Sherman’s sources, “Trump told advisers that he wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to have Manigault Newman arrested” despite the fact that “it’s unclear what law Trump believes she broke.”"

This Russian company knows which side Trump is supporting:

Populists who support Trump like to point the finger at government bureaucracy, while denying how much they personally benefit from government actions (in a very similar manner to their position on climate change denial).

Title: "Why so many people who need the government hate it"

https://www.vox.com/2018/8/17/17675100/welfare-politics-republicans-democrats-suzanne-mettler

Extract: "“Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

President Ronald Reagan uttered those words in his 1981 inaugural address to the country. He was referring specifically to the government’s role in helping bring the US out of an economic crisis. But since then, it’s become a kind of blanket truism in Republican circles. The government is a perennial boogeyman, and the main policy objective on the right has been to reduce the role of government in public life.

But there’s a problem: Many who accept this dogma are the very people who need the government the most. Research shows, for instance, that Republican states are disproportionately dependent on federal aid. Yet many Republican voters appear blissfully unaware of this contradiction.

It turns out that people’s attitudes toward welfare are a strong predictor of how they’ll vote. But even more interesting, the types of federal benefits people get — and whether they’re “visible” like food stamps and Medicaid or “invisible” like tax breaks — influence how they perceive their own personal dependency on social welfare programs.

We’re in this weird situation in which people have to come to rely on government more and more, and at the same time government has required less and less of people. Now, you’d expect this to mean that people’s attitudes toward government have become favorable, but the opposite is true. And this is the paradox I’m grappling with in the book.

About 44 percent of Americans have unfavorable views of welfare. And the people who have very unfavorable views about welfare have strong attitudes about government that are shaped by this view. They believe that welfare is unfair, or that undeserving people are receiving it, and that deserving people like themselves are not getting anything.

There’s a lot of resentment out there from people who have this deeply negative perception of welfare, and this perception determines their view of government more than anything else. They’re blind to their own relationship to government, and so they assume welfare is something “other” people get.

Race is significant, and many other scholars have discovered this as well. Across the board, whites had more unfavorable views of welfare than people of color, in large part because they considered welfare something that people of color primarily benefit from.

I also found that income matters a lot, too. Every group throughout the middle class had very unfavorable views toward welfare. Even African Americans, if they were middle-class, were more resentful of welfare than African Americans who were low-income or high-income.

… data shows that it’s the so-called “red states” that contribute the least to the federal coffers and rely the most on federal services …

I think there are a couple of things that might explain this. One is that I found that people who benefit from more visible social programs, like food stamps, are much less likely to vote.

This is not a big surprise. We’ve know for some time that people who are higher-income and have more socioeconomic status tend to vote more. They tend to be mobilized more by groups and public officials and they participate more, and they tend to be less cognizant of the ways in which they benefit from social services.

The people who participate the most in politics, usually people with more education and more resources, rely on plenty of social benefits from government, but these benefits are often hidden in the tax code or are disguised in other ways. So they don’t think of government as having done much for them personally."

Things seem to be "meeting" in a not so good way ......

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-s-consumers-no-tolerance-inflation-161959788.html

1)  Inflation picking up
2)  Consumer sentiment could cause a pull back in spending
3)  Tariff's starting to pinch
4)  Gasoline prices stubbornly high

It looks like a recipe for a further slowdown.  And it also comes at a time when more and more people "on the edges" are thinking about pulling back on buying a car right now.

For now ..... EARLY into "EV's" and just at the beginning of "AEV's" ..... this could have a bigger effect than most people think.

If you look at some of the "comments" on the "cars...cars..cars..." thread you see that there are comments by people "putting off" their purchase of a car right now:

1)  They see EV's coming .... but they still may have a little sticker shock
2)  We're just at the VERY BEGINNING of EV's that are autonomous .... and that may cause a few people to "pause".

I see more and more signs of JUST THE BEGINNING of a "buyers strike" in cars.  Something I will try to watch more closely .... but something that keeps popping up in conversations I have with friends.  They talk to their friends that just bought an electric car .... and they are thinking:  "Hmmmmmm .... maybe my next car will be an EV."  I'll hold onto my ICE another year or two .... and then see about committing money for a car.

At the same time ..... Trump is "OVERSELLING" his economy, and he has his economic prognosticator Larry Kudlow (the guy who didn't see the housing crisis coming .... OR the Great Recession) ..... but they are both out there saying "we are knocking out of the ballpark" on the economy.

If they come up with a "mediocre number" towards the end of October for the 2nd quarter reporting period ..... that will not look good on election day about 2 weeks later.

The Russian media knows which side The Donald is on:

Title: "‘Trump Is Ours’: Kremlin Media Fear Democratic Victory in November Midterm Elections"

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-is-ours-kremlin-media-fears-democratic-victory-in-november-midterm-elections?ref=home?ref=home

Extract: "During any other presidency, it would be highly unusual for the Russian media to be preoccupied with the American midterm elections, but in the time of Donald Trump, Russian politicians and pundits have taken a keen interest in the races for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

As the realization dawns on them that the Putin-friendly president cannot or will not lift past and future sanctions on the faltering Russian economy, as many had expected, they appear to be focusing their hopes—and fears—on the Hill.

Reports in the state-controlled media betray the Kremlin’s apparent concern that President Trump will be impeached if the Democrats win control of the House. They describe the midterms as “the electoral death match.”"

While the linked article is several weeks old, its point is still valid that the GOP leadership's silence on Trump's behavior is a national scandal:

I suspect that Trump (with Putin's behind the scenes support) will try to better contain China by attacking Iran and setting-up a puppet government there:

I hope that Trump does something other than simply following the well worn path trodden by so many of his predecessors.

If things continue apace Donnie may waste an entire Presidential term without starting a major conflict anywhere. What a disgraceful display of sound judgment and prudence.

In the way of more 'proof'; here is one of many reviews of Malcolm Nance's recent book:

Title: "THE PLOT TO DESTROY DEMOCRACY - How Putin's Spies Are Winning Control of America and Dismantling the West"

https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/malcolm-nance/the-plot-to-destroy-democracy/

Extract: "It’s a remarkable bit of spinning that has allowed right-leaning media to portray Russia, the longtime rival and even enemy of the United States, as our friend. By intelligence officer and counterterrorism analyst Nance’s (Defeating ISIS: Who They Are, How They Fight, What They Believe, 2016, etc.) account, the victor in Trump’s electoral win was Vladimir Putin, who “won with the aid of Americans who had turned on their own values.” In this, everyone is implicated, from the putatively liberal media and its obsession with Clinton’s emails to pro-Trump voters who cast their ballots for him despite their candidate’s “slavish devotion to Putin.” It’s a story that isn’t going away, despite what the president might wish. Certainly, Nance writes, the intelligence community is keeping its eye on the prize, and for those in the administration who urge that it’s all just misperception and accident, Nance counters, “coincidence takes a lot of planning.” The author argues that much of that planning originated inside the Kremlin, but much also came from the desk of Steve Bannon, a key actor in forging a vanguard for a new kind of pro-Moscow conservative movement in America. In a narrative dense with “active measures” and “Kompromat,” Nance traces the revival of Russian enmity to Putin’s second term as president, when he turned his KGB training to good use in weakening his American opponents by exploiting their divisions—exactly what those active measures are supposed to do. The author wraps up his case with a provocative declaration that will occasion divisions all on its own: “Trump has definitely convinced me that he transitioned from an unwitting asset of Vladimir Putin to a willing asset working in league with the Russian Federation.”"

Doesn't this make the assumption that "Putin's Spies" have actually uncovered the existence of Democracy in the Good Ole US of A? What an unexpected discovery.

Nance stands on the broad shoulders of Colin Powell as he fearlessly exploits the fears of America. Millions died in the aftermath of Powell's prevarications, Billions more could follow if Nance's slanders were taken at face value.

Why is his Facebook page unmolested in out new & glorious era of Corporate Censorship.

I hope some of you watched Rachel tonight.  I don’t think Donnie and John Brennan will be doing lunch anytime soon.  Donnie is likely going to spiral further out of control.  He’s going to break soon and do something stupid (and I mean Donnie x 10 stupid).

Meanwhile ..... more and more people are speaking up against Trump.  Time for a few salamanders in the Republican Party to grow a backbone.  Republicans are following their leader to the cliffs like a pack of lemmings.  Are they going to follow him over the cliff?  Is FOX news going to follow him over the cliff?

For those who missed it, the linked article summarizes Brennan's appearance on the Maddow Show:

Title: "John Brennan: Trump Is ‘Drunk On Power’ — And Dangerous"

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/john-brennan-calls-trump-drunk-on-power_us_5b77befae4b05906b413d77f

Extract: "Former CIA director John Brennan spoke for the first time on TV after Donald Trump yanked his security clearance to tell Rachel Maddow Friday that the president is “drunk on power” — and capable of triggering a disaster.

“The fact that he’s using a security clearance of a former CIA director as a pawn in his public relations strategy I think is so reflective of somebody who is drunk on power. I think he’s abusing the powers of that office,” Brennan said on MSNBC.

Brennan said he believes the nation is “in a crisis in terms of what Mr. Trump has done and is liable to do.” He noted earlier: “These are very frightening times.”"

An explanation of Melania Trump's intention behind: "I Really Don't Care, Do U?":

Title: "New profile of first lady Melania Trump reveals intention behind “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?” jacket"

https://www.salon.com/2018/08/18/new-profile-of-first-lady-melania-trump-reveals-intention-behind-i-really-dont-care-do-u-jacket/

Extract: " In June, the Slovenian-born Mrs. Trump, 48, was the only senior administration official to visit multiple detention facilities near the United States' border with Mexico after thousands of migrant children were separated from their parents as part of the administration’s "zero tolerance" immigration policies. But any good intentions were overshadowed by her decision to wear a jacket emblazoned with the phrase "I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?" on an official trip to Texas. It was widely seen as inappropriate, insensitive and unbecoming of her office.

Mr. Trump seized on the moment to say his wife was addressing the news media, but a person close to Mrs. Trump said the jacket was actually directed at anyone — both outside and inside the White House — who wanted to criticize her decision to visit the children in light of the administration’s aggressive immigration policies. The East Wing insisted the jacket had no underlying message."

A general theme that applies to many threads in this forum is that our current socio-economic-political systems are all subject to being gamed by behavioral mimicry of parasites; which is causing societies to live on borrowed time, in an unsustainable manner.  So while this post could well go into many other threads; nevertheless, I post it here as I believe that Trump, as a malevolent narcissist (psychopath) endlessly uses affinity fraud to game his followers into supporting his unsustainable & kleptocratic actions.  The first linked article draws lessons from biological parasites and applies them to the bad behavior of psychopaths in 'financial fraud, interpersonal harm, and organizational misbehavior."  The second link is to a Wikipedia article on affinity fraud in financial situations when men like Trump learned to game people like those in his base.

Daniel Nelson Jones (July 2014), "Predatory Personalities as Behavioral Mimics and Parasites: Mimicry-Deception Theory", Perspectives on Psychological Science 9(4):445-451, DOI: 10.1177/1745691614535936

Abstract: Humans use a variety of deceptive tactics to extract resources from unsuspecting others. In this article, I suggest that much can be learned about patterns of human deception from predatory nonhuman animal behavior and parasitic infections. Nonhuman animals and parasitic infections utilize deceptive tactics to extract resources through two overarching strategies: (a) complex deception, slow resource extraction, heavy integration into a host or community, and low risk of detection, or (b) superficial deception, immediate resource extraction, little host or community specificity, and increased risk of detection. Predatory and parasitic human personalities may operate in analogous ways. Guided by analogies derived from nonhuman animal mimicry (such as color or behavioral deception) and micro-organismic infections, I have developed a theoretical framework to better understand deceptive and parasitic human behaviors as well as the characteristics defining them. Although applicable to areas of predatory and parasitic human behavior, two specific traits (psychopathy and Machiavellianism) are highlighted that have dire consequences for financial fraud, interpersonal harm, and organizational misbehavior."

Title: "Affinity fraud"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affinity_fraud

Extract: "Affinity fraud is a form of investment fraud in which the fraudster preys upon members of identifiable groups, such as religious or ethnic communities, language minorities, the elderly, or professional groups. The fraudsters who promote affinity scams frequently are – or successfully pretend to be – members of the group. They often enlist respected community or religious leaders from within the group to spread the word about the scheme, by convincing those people that a fraudulent investment is legitimate and worthwhile. Many times, those leaders become unwitting victims of the fraudster's ruse.

These scams involve exploitation of the trust and friendship that exist in groups of people who have something in common. Because of the tight-knit structure of many groups, it can be difficult for regulators or law enforcement officials to detect an affinity scam. Victims often fail to notify authorities or pursue their legal remedies, and instead try to work things out within the group. This is particularly true where the fraudsters have used respected community or religious leaders to convince others to join the investment.

Many affinity scams involve Ponzi schemes or pyramid schemes, where newly received investor money is used by the fraudster to make payments to earlier investors to give the illusion that the investment is successful. This ploy is used to trick new investors to invest in the scheme and to lull existing investors into believing their investments are safe and secure. In reality, the fraudster almost always steals investor money for personal use. Both types of schemes depend on an unending supply of new investors; when the supply of investors inevitably dries up, the whole scheme collapses and investors discover that most or all of their money is gone."

As I believe that Trump is colluding with Putin to spread kleptocraties (that are essentially based on fascism) around the world, as a follow-on to my last post (about affinity fraud) I provide the following link to a TED Talk by Yuval Noah Harari about the differences between nationalism (which is typically positive and fascism (which people like Trump deceive his base to be nationalism):

Title: "Alliteration"

Extract: "Alliteration is a figure of speech and a stylistic literary device which is identified by the repeated sound of the first or second letter in a series of words, or the repetition of the same letter sounds in stressed syllables of a phrase.

Alliteration narrowly refers to the repetition of a letter in any syllables that, according to the poem's meter, are stressed, as in James Thomson's verse "Come…dragging the lazy languid Line along".  Another example is "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers"."

As an example of affinity fraud, Trump's 'lawyer' Rudy Giuliani is more or less peddling that 'truth' is defined by what POTUS says that it is, rather than what a court of law (as we will find out if/when Mueller indicts Trump) says it is:

Title: "Giuliani: ‘Truth isn’t truth’"

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/19/giuliani-truth-todd-trump-788161

Extract: "In May, the former New York mayor pursued a similar line of thought in an interview with the Washington Post about the Mueller investigation: “They may have a different version of the truth than we do.”

The statement also recalled Kellyanne Conway’s statement in January 2017 referring to “alternative facts” offered by the White House about crowd sizes at Trump’s inauguration. (In response to Giuliani‘s remarks Sunday, Merriam-Webster tweeted a link to the definition of the word truth in its dictionary.)

Trump's legal team, led by Giuliani, earlier this month replied to special counsel Mueller’s proposal for terms of a possible presidential interview, but wouldn't disclose the details of the counteroffer.

Mueller is investigating whether the Russian government colluded with Trump's 2016 campaign, as well as related issues including possible obstruction of justice by the president.

The president has said he is willing to speak with the special counsel, though that has yet to come about."

Trump is certainly a strange fish. It's a bit of leap to match these labels up with believing that Trump is colluding with Putin to spread kleptocraties and it's all right there in his "personality type".

Even if one is not concerned that Trump is likely a psychopath, his public record shows a long history of ties to both mob and Russian money:

Was Trump in such a hurry to cancel the military parade following the midterm election that he just made-up a high number, before the Pentagon gave him a real cost estimate?

Title: "Pentagon contradicts President Trump, says he wasn't given military parade cost estimate before canceling it"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/pentagon-contradicts-president-trump-says-he-wasnt-given-military-parade-cost-estimate-before-canceling-it/ar-BBMbBJS?ocid=spartandhp

Extract: "Defense officials didn’t brief President Trump on cost estimates for his long-desired military parade before he cancelled it last week, the Pentagon announced Monday, seemingly contradicting the President’s own statements on the matter.

“The President was not briefed by any member of the Department of Defense on any cost associated with the parade,” Col. Rob Manning told reporters at the Pentagon.

Manning’s announcement appears to be at odds with what Trump said after media outlets reported last week that the military extravaganza, which was originally planned for Nov. 10, could set taxpayers back $92 million."

I have stared in this thread multiple times the Trump voters do not have voter regret. I have also stated that no matter what the media is throwing at him- they don't care.Only people that care about that stuff are #nevertrumpers . I contend that he has even MORE support than on voting day. Here are a few links on that and maybe some reasons.

On this you have to look at the numbers-initially it looks bad BUT according to the NAACP poll Blacks are now at 21% support for Trump. (the numbers on multiple polls swing from 9% to 36%- this is somewhat in between)

Legally, Trump is out of control of the Mueller Investigation; as Congressional GOP would abandon him if he shuts it down.  Thus, I would not be surprised if Putin is working to enable Trump to start a major war with Iran; which, if done skillfully, could give the Congressional GOP (particularly a lame duck Congressional GOP leadership before January 2019) the cover needed to give Trump all the power that he needs, for a get out of jail for free card.

The nation’s postwar history, and the unrestrained use of a President’s supposed war powers, suggests that, in the short term, he could not be stopped—though an ineffective attempt was made in 1973, when Congress passed the War Powers Act Resolution, which requires a President to inform Congress of any troop commitment and, if not given an extension by Congress, to remove all troops within sixty days. A lot can happen in sixty days.

Even the most ardent Trump supporter must recognize the potential problem, and must wonder who would have the patriotism, valor, or innate moral sense to deal with the unimaginable—to perhaps speak up, in a moment of crisis, and tell the President “no.”"

One of the most important technologies that continues to rollout is ARTFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.  Whether it is healthcare, construction, or any other industry.... the onslaught of AI will be profound ... and  it will EVENTUALLY impact politics ... or as I prefer to call it, GOVERNING.

In world of a high amount of AI ..... all the sudden facts, truth, and science mean a WHOLE LOT MORE.  One of the signifanct problems that humans have is they have BIAS.  In fact, just by attaching a “tag” like liberal or conservative to oneself gives you a bias.

What happens in the world in a future with LESS BIAS .... and more concerned with FACTS, TRUTH, and ACTUAL OUTCOMES?  This is going to take time ..... but that rascal TRUTH, NEVER goes away .... EVER.  And people who want to hide the truth, have something to hide ... whether it is Ted Cruz hiding the real effects of global warming or Traitor Don and Rudy Guilliani trying to hide the truth of conspiracy with Russians.

Donnie’s VERY ..... VERY ..... VERY bad day, just got worse.  Lanny Davis, one of Michael Cohen’s lawyer, intimated that Cohen has a LOT of information that Mueller will be interested in, and noted the meeting with the Russians in Trump Tower specifically, as well as hacking into the DNC computers.

A lot of people will be getting a LOT less sleep in coming weeks:

1) Trump and family members
2). Brad P. the Trump campaign computer geek.
3). Mikey Pence
4). Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro at FOX
5). Trump Organization (the corporate entity..... more on this later)

There are a LOT of others..... but the above are at the top of the list.

When someone is miserable low life lying POS without ethics, and he surrounds himself with more of the same ..... THIS is what you get.  But it will get even worse in coming weeks.

Republicans running for office right now have a choice to make:  Dump Donnie or get run over.  Their choice ....

I don’t recall my friends on the left saying that “truth isn’t truth”.  I’m afraid the right owns that one all by themselves .... or do I need to revisit “alternative reality” with you? 😉

I said nothing about truth isn't truth. Just the rest.Read what I said.

What the WSJ fails to note is that the Trump administrations notice that they intend to provide no waivers to its sanctions (particularly those coming in November) on Iran, is largely a threat to the EU, that they need to decide whether they are on the US side or the Iranian side.  Such rhetoric is useful cover for a US military assault on Iran:

Title: "U.S. Vows to Grant Few Waivers on Iran Sanctions"

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-vows-to-grant-few-waivers-on-iran-sanctions-1534936567

Extract: "The Trump administration is looking to ratchet up pressure on Iran to abandon its nuclear program, going beyond previous international sanctions, U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said Wednesday.

“We’re not just going to stop at where the sanctions were in 2015, our goal, our objective really is essentially we’d like to say no waivers to the sanctions,” Mr. Bolton said while talking to reporters at the end of two days of meetings with Israeli officials. He next travels to Geneva to meet with his Russian counterpart."
“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”

EU ready to protect European firms from U.S. sanctions on Iran

The European Union on Monday said that new measures are ready to take effect to protect European businesses from the impact of U.S. sanctions on Iran.

The measures also aim to save the agreement meant to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions after the U.S abandoned the pact. The EU insists the deal is important for global security and is trying to keep economic and financial supply lines to Tehran open.

The EU's executive Commission said Monday that the "blocking statute" will take effect beginning at midnight Washington time.

The mechanism stops European companies from complying with the U.S. sanctions unless they have authorization from the Commission. National governments could impose "effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties" on any of their companies that cave in.

The statute also blocks the effects of U.S. court actions in Europe and allows European firms to recover damages arising from the sanctions from anyone who causes them.
