Average remaining freeze (of the last 10 years) would produce a maximum in Sept 2020 of 19.20 million km2, 1.14 million km2 above the 2017 record low maximum of 18.06 million km2.

After about 3 weeks of very high sea ice extent gains starting in late Feb, recently gains have been at or below average. As a result extent has changed from 37th lowest, 7th highest, on 11th March to 29th lowest, 15th highest, on the 31 March.
