JAXA ANTARCTIC SEA ICE EXTENT(5 day trailing average):

Here is a look back at April

April '24 Antarctic monthly average sea ice extent was 6.18 million km2, 10th lowest in the 46 year satellite record, 0.50 million km2 below the longterm linear trend, and 0.65 million km2 above the April '23 average.

During April the 365 day trailing average continued to increase by an accelerating rate, up by 52k km2 in the month, 1.39 million km2 below the longterm linear trend, and 0.19 million km2 above the record low in December '23. If sea ice change for the remainder of the year is at the 10 year average, the average will increase by a bit over 0.80 million km2 by the end of Dec '24.

NSIDC ANTARCTIC SEA ICE AREA (5 day trailing average):

Here's a look at the regional sea ice area of the Antarctic.

The West Pacific and the Weddell are the most interesting at the moment.
