JAXA March 14th, 2018: 13,853,284 km2, an increase of 15,418 km2 and a new max.

2018 needs to increase another 25,003 km2 to be even with 2017 max.  ;)

Which is the best answer to Sep-2012 ASI lost (compared to 1979-2000)?
50% [NSIDC Extent] or
73% [PIOMAS Volume]

Volume is harder to measure than extent, but 3-dimensional space is real, 2D's hide ~50% thickness gone.
-> IPCC/NSIDC trends [based on extent] underestimate the real speed of ASI lost.

Surprise surprise!!    :o

JAXA March 16th, 2018: 13,874,375 km2, a drop of 1,302 km2.
Very small drop, but 2018 is still the lowest max on record.

So it looks like we can call it. The maximum for 2018 was 13.891 million square km. If you guessed at 13.75 to 14m, you erre bang on. If you guessed at 13.875 to 14.125 you just barely got it right, and if, like me, you guessed at 13.625 - 13.875 you just missed it. If you it it, well done; if you missed it, better luck next time.
