The false maximum passes sometime between late May and late June.
There is a possibility the false maximum was reached on the 25th May @ 18.48 million km2, which would be 3rd lowest in the 46 year satellite record, and very early.
From then average daily losses continue until the false minimum in early/mid September.
Sea ice Area then normally makes the final run to the maximum in late October /early November.
The projected 2024 maximum is 19.69 million km2, 2.08 more than the November 2016 record low maximum of 17.61 million km2, which would be 5th lowest in the 46 year satellite record
