I really like the Donovan song, haven't heard it before. 'Catchy' rhythm, foottapper, body mover, thanks Tom :).
Here I am 'dancing' in my comfy soft low chair (I like to sit upright behind my desk).
There are many moves you can make whilst sitting in a chair \o/.

I just read that Mr. Ellington was born in 1899 which makes him 5 years younger than my grandfather.

I think the remix has already been posted in another thread blumenkraft. And got some good critical reaction. It is a nice idea to use it in a remix but Beware ;)
What will Greta think of it? Did she gave permission?

I just listened to nanning's "Martine Bijl - Er Zijn Daar Geen Meikevers Meer (nl) (1974)" (November 4), found the lyrics and ran Google Translate on them, and read the translation as I listened a 2nd and 3rd time.  It's a pretty song to listen to, and very sad.  Thanks.

Thanks blum and Tor. And thank you Tor for really listening to Martine Bijl. Powerful lyrics. Says a lot about how much of living nature is gone in the last century alone. Never to return. Very sad indeed. It is, alas, reality.

I wonder about the part where she sings that it is an old tradition. Any idea if that is made up or actually something people did. Why would you catch may bugs?

It´s mainly a song about country changing to city.

And a beautiful song which should be a classic:

Popcorn led me to Switched On Bach
Specifically

and then

I remember playing my new (just released) Switched On Bach record at high volume on my decent stereo in my university dorm room.  The outside wall was mostly a steel sheet and acted like a speaker (noticeable on the outside).  It was quite glorious (if you liked this sort of music...)

I also once read to all, via an amplified mike, the last chapter of Through the Looking Glass, word for word backwards [Chapter XII. Which Dreamed it? ] (from the end - starting with "END THE: Dream a but. It is, what, Life?"). [I must have been popular ...  ::)] [I didn't need drugs...]

I wonder about the part where she sings that it is an old tradition. Any idea if that is made up or actually something people did. Why would you catch may bugs?

It´s mainly a song about country changing to city.

Sorry kassy, I missed your question.
I think it is genuine. Why would she make up the part where she sings about her father's memories?

I disagree with your synopsis. I think it is mainly a song about the disappearance of all kinds of wildlife.
refrein: "Er was zoveel om je heen, en dat is allemaal verdwenen, en geen macht op deze Aarde brengt het weer"

Already so much lost in 1973! I was 7yo so that was my 'normal' but now I know that most was already gone  :'(. Having read "The unnatural history of the sea" by Malcolm Roberts was the same sort of eyeopener. History in perspective -> Better world view :).

Covers:
Normally I do not like covers, unless the versions are either very similar (so they sound the same) or very different (like they are two different songs)
First case Words Of Love:

Buddy Holly

The Beatles

Second case The River Is Wide

The Forum

The Grassroots

The song starts and ends in the city and while it is a lament our protagonist laments she cannot catch as much may bugs as her dad which is kind of an interesting angle.

Sorry kassy, I don't understand your text.

With the parking lot reference she is, I think, blaming urbanisation, private-car-love and perhaps the effects of modern and progress.

I am old fashioned. I wish humans today were like those from before the seventies. From before supermarkets everywhere.

Thanks Tom :)
Did you get the
"Netherlandic cover (but from which original)?"
"It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents us from living freely and nobly" - Bertrand Russell
"It is preoccupation with what other people from your groups think of you, that prevents you from living freely and nobly" - Nanning
Why do you keep accumulating stuff?

Not familiar with that one.
I mostly like songs that remind me of when I was a child or in school, like this one

Baby Take Me In Your Arms - Jefferson

Answer: it is the tune of "Love Of The Common People"
"It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents us from living freely and nobly" - Bertrand Russell
"It is preoccupation with what other people from your groups think of you, that prevents you from living freely and nobly" - Nanning

Nice song from 1969 from Jefferson. I notice that it is from "Anus records" haha
