A real classic (I can strongly recommend the movie as well :) ):
Oh how things were better in those days. Tranquility and freedom. And humour. And really deep connections and trust.

Henry Mancini - Theme From 'The Pink Panther' (i) (1975)

"It is preoccupation with possessions, more than anything else, that prevents us from living freely and nobly" - Bertrand Russell
"It is preoccupation with what other people from your groups think of you, that prevents you from living freely and nobly" - Nanning

It seems local lass Joss Stone is shortly to board a ship in Longyearbyen. Hence:

What you need is some proper classical stuff.

"Damn, I wanted to see what happened next" (Epitaph)

All I do is right-click on the video, a little menu comes up, I then choose "copy url",
then paste it into the post.

There is also the option "copy the url at the time in the video you have got to" in that little menu, but can't avoid bloody adverts.

The best version imo of this amazing fugue by Bach, with animated score by Smalin. Enjoy.

So, I finally got me John Coltrane's Giant Steps CD for my natural trumpet practise - After I decided to try a 7th voice to JS Bach's Ricercar a 6 on Dr. Frankenstein Jr's trumpet it was obvious I also have to give an ear to the Thema Regium of Jazz... (I might modify my CD player (Technics, late 1980ies, 18bit linear interpolation, upper ball of mechanics amputated ca. 1999) to fine tune the quartz, as my self-made copper trumpet (ca. 1986) can not be tuned. The Ricercar I got on an undulated Soviet LP (bought on the last day in East Berlin) which I can play on my 1980ies fine-tuneable turntable... Q: Has technology advanced meanwhile?)

Soon later I discovered an Indian goddess on YouTube singing Trane's solo perfectly unisono at original speed:

WARNING. This can freak your ear out. Is it hearing maths or the maths of hearing?

Here is an excellent general audience introduction to Giant Steps and the circle of fifths:

If you're still there:

Excellent stuff Martin! I have a stack of Trane "records" and an even taller one of Miles, since he lived longer apart from anything else:

Unfortunately my prototype Naim NAP 120 just went "pop". My Linn Sondek is still going strong though!

Re: dying sound equipment
Man, I really miss my HiFi system that I've enjoyed so so much since 1989. I've shed many tears from pure joy.

Because my Camtech8000A amplifier has problems since I moved  :(, I cannot use my Philips turntable, my NakamichiCR4E cassette deck, my MarantzCD85 cd player, my AudiolabCrestoMkII speakers and my SonySA5ES tuner. My Stax died earlier. I'm feeling kinda blue about it.

I now use 20 euro computerspeakers from Logitech because I have no money to repair my amplifier. It is built with only discrete components (no IC's) so should be repairable by an amateur if the PCB and the enormous trafo are still in one piece.
At least the old speakers make for nice furniture and I can put potted plants on them.

The following videomusicalio is mistitled. It is Jaco Pastorius playing Jaco Pastorius (pretty much the only bass I can enjoy on my fancy HP laptop with "Bang & Olufsen" loudspeakers. Acoustic bass requires external loudspeakers (Mono here). Alas the Bluetooth interfacings' failure points change with every "update" of the darn Windoze box...) and

steel drum plays Giant Steps:
(starts 7:43)

(P.S.: My box does not allow to have internal and external speakers together. Would be interesting what echo effect that would give... (The art of synchronization seems to have been ended late last century, when I left my job with leading chip manufacturing data mining folks. (Mind the quartz drift, but keep it simple...))

Really interesting song.

If you play around with drones that I - V is an interesting pattern to play around with and play all around the circle.

PS: i never was into jazz much but i had Arnie Berles book.
Clearly jazz required a lot of dedication. :)

Thanks once again Martin. I've never seen/heard that before!

Jaco's early demise is possibly even sadder than Trane's?

Usually I don't like this genre of "science music". But this one is not cosmos schmosmos but feet-on-the-ground. And bears repeating and radio-torturing folks with it wherever you can.  (Parental advisory: Explicit lyrics.)

I'm going to put forward two songs, the first won't be many people's cup of tea but the lyrics are incredibly strong and thought provoking about what we are doing to this planet

The second is world music from many years ago that shows how long we have known the world is changing at our hands.  If you don't like a bit then it's really worth shipping forwards as is a real melting pot of music

Apologies if this was already posted (my quick perusal didn't find it on the thread). Like some other message songs from decades ago...the messages just seems that much more poignant now:

"Oh, this world is burning fast.
Oh, this world will never last.
I don't want to lose it..."

Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, of course.

Not exactly my cup of tea but Jean Michel Jarre was a pioneer of the synth.

Video is very dated now. But yet looks very like something from Stranger Things !
