I'm a fool
« on: June 26, 2018, 12:10:50 PM »
You can explain if you want why you're a fool (or not), but it's a foolish thing to do.

Either way, I'm a fool and I try to tell myself every day. My wife supports me.

I knew you fine, sight dream of mine
But I know my eyes, they've often lied
And I move like blood, like fire and flood
Despite you
Blind love couldn't win
As the facts all came in
But I know I'll again chase after wind
What have I got if not a thought?
I knew, oh I knew
I knew
It was a fool's errand
Waiting for a sign
But I can't leave until the sight comes to mind
A fool's errand
Life will repeat, vision I see
The mouth and the teeth
That's fine with me
What have I got if not a thought?
I knew, oh I knew
I knew
It was a fool's errand
Waiting for a sign
But I can't leave until the sign comes to mind
A fool's errand
But I can make it through
I was thin and I saw life in you
Fool's errand
Make money, not peace

Not so bad to be a fool?
Perhaps I am a fool for not being a fool?

The Fool on the Hill
The Beatles
Day after day, alone on a hill
The man with the foolish grin is sitting perfectly still
Nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
But he never gives an answer

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round

His head in a cloud
The man with a foolish grin is talking perfectly loud
But nobody wants to hear him
They can see that he's just a fool
But he never gives an answer

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning round
"Para a Causa do Povo a Luta Continua!"
"And that's all I'm going to say about that". Forrest Gump
"Damn, I wanted to see what happened next" (Epitaph)

Two thoughts from very different sources!

Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu - chapter 20

Give up learning, and put an end to your troubles.

Is there a difference between yes and no?
Is there a difference between good and evil?
Must I fear what others fear? What nonsense!

Other people are contented, enjoying the sacrificial feast of the ox.
In spring some go to the park, and climb the terrace,
But I alone am drifting not knowing where I am.

Like a new-born babe before it learns to smile,
I am alone, without a place to go.

Other have more than they need, but I alone have nothing.
I am a fool. Oh, yes! I am confused.

Other men are clear and bright,
But I alone am dim and weak.
Other men are sharp and clever,
But I alone am dull and stupid.
Oh, I drift like the waves of the sea.
Without direction, like the restless wind.

Everyone else is busy,
But I alone am aimless and depressed.

I am different.
I am nourished by the great mother.

"Oh me, oh my (I'm a fool for your, baby)"

To make you laugh, I would be a fool for you
Although the people turn and stare
I really don't care
I would give my everything to keep you, boy
It breaks my heart when you've not there
I'll stage a ballet on a tabletop
Command performance finger size
And although I ain't got no tune
My show ain't gonna fly
I'll find the music there in your eyes
Oh me, oh my, I'm a fool for you baby (baby now)
(Fool for you) Oh me oh my (I)
I am crazy (crazy baby)
Oh me, oh my (me oh my)
Yeah I'm a fool for ya baby
C'mon let your love light shine on me
(Shine on me)
We'll blow a genie from a cigarette
And then we'll take a magic carpet ride
Yes we will
And we'll tell our smokey friend, hey don't you forget
Because you've got to keep us side by side, yeah
Oh me, oh my (oh me, oh my)
I am a fool for ya baby (be your)
(Your fool for ya)
Oh me, oh my, (I)
You know that I am (crazy) crazy baby
(Crazy baby) yes you do (crazy baby)
Oh me, oh my (oh me, oh my)
Whoa-oh I'm a fool (fool) for ya baby
(Need your)
Come on let your love light shine on me
(Shine on me)
Would you do that' (on me)
Come on let your love light shine
Just a little bit (shine) right on me
Oh lover let your love light
Shine on me (shine on me)
Oh hear me now!
Oh me, me oh my
I'm a fool oh! for ya baby (now)
Oh me oh my (I)
You know that I'm cra-a-azy baby
(Crazy baby)
Oh me, oh my

Foolishness is the default state of mankind.

If x = everything someone knows, y = all the knowledge that can be known and knowledge is infinite then:

lim y --> inf x/y = 0

We know something for sure, but relative to how much there is to know we know nothing.

Edit: foolish mistake

In Dutch you're a 'bug', so it could be worse. ;-)

In fact, in German you're also a 'goal', which is quite relevant atm.

beside the fact that we're probably all kind of foolish, at least at times, the question is whether doing foolish things makes as fools or is the term fool only significant if we are fools compared to the average or the majority.

there have been great and wise men that are know nowadays to have been that but i'm quite sure they did foolish things as well, does that make them fools?

can one be a fool and a wise man/woman at the same time.

i say yes we can be and IMO are both, just not both at the same time, hence perhaps i'm not a fool right now but in 5 minutes or perhaps i'm fool to post this, hence am a fool now?

not that easy other than it's obvious that we are all more or less fools, just lets thrive to be on the lesser side as often as possible ;)

Yes, you are a fool. It is you and your scarcity consciousness, that makes you pessimistic. Ten years, and nothing will happen. Ice gets smaller and ice gets bigger, and you feel yourself more and more stupid :)

I'm a fool so which of the following are more important?
How does one breathe?
Where in the world is it easiest to get rich?

United States of Scandinavia!

Just move here if you want to be rich, that would also mean that you will become an immigrant.
A fools warning; foul language in the video at the bottom. Do not play. Which is also why people can't resist, but that's not my fault.

I was a fool…  8)

"Now I used to think that I was cool running around on fossil fuel,
Until I saw what I was doing was driving down the road to ruin."
James Taylor

Complete lyrics:

"Traffic Jam" - James Taylor

Damn this traffic jam, how I hate to be late, it hurts my motor to go so slow.
Damn this traffic jam, time I get home my supper'll be cold, damn this traffic jam.

Well I left my job about 5 o'clock, it took fifteen minutes go three blocks,
Just in time to stand in line with a freeway looking like a parking lot.
Damn this traffic jam, how I hate to be late, it hurts my motor to go so slow.
Damn this traffic jam, time I get home my supper'll be cold, damn this traffic jam.

Now I almost had a heart attack, looking in my rear view mirror,
I saw myself the next car back, looking in the rear view mirror,
about to have a heart attack, I said,
damn this traffic jam, how I hate to be late, it hurts my motor to go so slow.
Damn this traffic jam, time I get home my supper'll be cold, damn this traffic jam.

Now when I die I don't want no coffin, I thought about it all too often.
Just strap me in behind the wheel and bury me with my automobile.
Damn this traffic jam, how I hate to be late, it hurts my motor to go so slow.
Damn this traffic jam, time I get home my supper'll be cold, damn this traffic jam. Damn.

Now I used to think that I was cool running around on fossil fuel,
Until I saw what I was doing was driving down the road to ruin.
Which is the best answer to Sep-2012 ASI lost (compared to 1979-2000)?
50% [NSIDC Extent] or
73% [PIOMAS Volume]

Volume is harder to measure than extent, but 3-dimensional space is real, 2D's hide ~50% thickness gone.
-> IPCC/NSIDC trends [based on extent] underestimate the real speed of ASI lost.

Terrific TedX talk by Harald Eia - calmly smiling all the way through it. Brilliant.
I'm such a fool that I actually watched it twice and found it better the second time.

I though FridaF would comment on that one, considering her(?) two first posts here.

Edit; About the question mark, here in Scandinavia we use the gender neutral "hen" instead of "han" (he) or "hon" (she) if we are unsure, likewise in Finland were they use both "hen" and "hän".

Not as elegant as "hen", but possibly acceptable workarounds?

Ah well, somewhat awkward sometimes for an old Finland-Swede immigrant. Lost a "t" above as well, sorry.

I'm a fool because sometimes I tell my boss what he should do, because I don't believe that the president is a king, because I believe in democracy and human rights... but sometimes miracles happen, and some people resign : thank you for leaving Mr Pruitt.

Andy Williams - A Fool Never Learns

I remember playing my siblings' 45 rpm record over and over (in 1964) [like 20 or 30 times in a row] - they made me put on headphones, and then made me stop 'singing' at the top of my lungs. Ah, memories of being 8 years old :-* :'(

Arctic ice is healthy for children and other living things because "we cannot negotiate with the melting point of ice"

(Actual song starts at about 2:30)
"A force de chercher de bonnes raisons, on en trouve; on les dit; et après on y tient, non pas tant parce qu'elles sont bonnes que pour ne pas se démentir." Choderlos de Laclos "You struggle to come up with some valid reasons, then cling to them, not because they're good, but just to not back down."

This is a foolish either-or question. I am both a fool and a non-fool. I am neither a fool nor a non-fool. So, just for fun and for this very moment alone I decided (and voted) to be not a fool. That might change in the next moment.

I've edited the poll to enable you to change your vote.  ;)

So now I will have to compare, compare, compare myself with previous versions of myself with a view to considering whether to change my vote, and then consider whether it would be foolish to do so.

Nurse !!
"Para a Causa do Povo a Luta Continua!"
"And that's all I'm going to say about that". Forrest Gump
"Damn, I wanted to see what happened next" (Epitaph)

That would eliminate my prior vote. I'd like to have the average of my votes counted. :)
Currently methinks I'm 0.4 fool and 0.6 non-fool. That will certainly change with my next oops.
