Les 'gilets jaunes' de France et le Roi Macron

Jimmy Dore, le comédien radical, does an extra long 35 mins video to look into what's going on in France the last few weeks.

He reviews an RT news video and then picks through an article by Diana Johnstone from Consortium News (below). Helps to explain the protesters are rioting about much more than a simple tax increase of gasoline/petrol by President Macron and his Government. Very little of the usual JD humour.

Dore empathises the deeper issues that never make it into the MSM press and news reports in other nations. What's the main target? Neoliberalism writ large. Marcon is now being called "President of the Rich!"

Macron's polling has collapsed since his stunning election win from 67% to 20%. While 'les gilets jaunes' protestors have ~70% approval from French citizens despite the violence, disruptions and the arrests! (according to reports)

Briefly, the message was this: we can’t make ends meet. The cost of living keeps going up, and our incomes keep going down. We just can’t take it any more. The government must stop, think and change course.

Marine Le Pen, president of the National Rally (previously National Front), accused the president’s “model” of governance based on “wild globalization, financialization of the economy, unfair competition,” of failing to address the social and cultural consequences of the Yellow Vest movement.

Why are the 'yellow vests' protesting in France? The wave of protests sweeping through France is not a rejection of green policies. It's a revolt against the 1 percent.

-1 for the vandalism and violence

I'm not following this very closely, but I assume that, just as with the Occupy Wall Street movement, there are manifold reasons for people to vent their dissatisfaction, but what is missing, is a clear, unifying message that addresses the root cause of said dissatisfactions. That's because it's difficult to see how things are interlinked, and what is the force driving it all. It's difficult enough to see the forest for the trees, but the roots are simply invisible to the eye.

Back in 2011 I wrote an op-ed for the Planet 3.0 website, called Rebels Without a Root Cause*, describing this problem with Occupy Wall Street. In the meantime, my thinking on the root cause has shifted somewhat, to a deeper layer. Back then I was really focused on GDP growth and the insanity of neoclassical economic theory (infinite growth on a finite planet, etc), but now I see that the function of this theory, and thus of neoliberalism, is to feed concentrated wealth. Behind every root cause there's always another root cause, I guess.

You can't re-define GDP growth or end the dominance of neoclassical economics, if you don't address the monster elephant in the room called concentrated wealth.

Marine Le Pen is some kind of alt-right drill baby drill type of politician. Her father, historical leader of the "Front National" had to leave the party because he was not able to talk politely about Jews, furthermore he was accused of committing torture during the Algerian war.
