Really wanted to compare cs2smos thickness to ascat, here overlaid at 50% transparent and masked with 90% amsr2 (100% conc fully transparent)

Cool, Uniquorn!

Very cool stuff (and not just because it looks like old school Elite spaceships doing The Culture spaceships tricks).

buoys in wychspace
need to add the nullschool data and get the labelling sorted. Maybe best to use daily PS loc, though it will partially obscure the close buoys
looks like my original labelling is incorrect. There are quite a few other errors.
nullschool labelling is incorrect-forgot to triple the frames - had enough for one day

testing oct1-21 with daily movement of PS loc where available. Probably have to change to white graticule
or..testing with less compression. much better but way too big a file size for forum. It'll just have to be smaller or ditch the nullschool layer.

Thread Lock

I opened the satellite news thread some time ago

This morning I locked it by accident.

Then I unlocked it.

Because I own it, when I go to the end of the thread, I see at the bottom left, LOCK TOPIC if the thread is open, or UNLOCK TOPIC if the thread is locked.

One click and I can change it.

Simples
"Para a Causa do Povo a Luta Continua!"
"And that's all I'm going to say about that". Forrest Gump
"Damn, I wanted to see what happened next" (Epitaph)

Just wondering, why in the test space and not somewhere to keep for posterity? In the NW passage thread for example?

@oren 10MB is too big (everyone will want to post that size)
edit: idea, you repost it and take the flak ;)

Here testing nullschool overlaid onto L Kaleschke leads. Irritating that I used PS locations from S1 images which stopped being available. Will rework this with p207 locs sometime. (substituted for the last few frames)
@johnm33 PS moves with the leads (except when there is no location data

No enhancement on sic leads, just scaling. Gimp gave a colour error when saving part2. Had to do it in 2 parts, png too big I think. -removed

testing compression on animation from Freegrass here using Sleepy's ffmpeg code here

ffmpeg -i fg.mp4 -vcodec libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -profile:v baseline -level 3 -crf 29 -vf "scale=trunc(iw/2)*2:trunc(ih/2)*2" fg29.mp4

1.94MB -> 791KB. Quality would probably better without using ezgif first.

May I ask uniquorn how another such image can be produced, say for the 5th of September? I would love to have that posted to the "when will the Arctic go ice-free?" thread, just the image showing the statistics for each pixel, no need for any gif.
If I knew how to produce this I would have done it a long time ago. I think it can teach quite a lot.

You could rename the Nullschool Animations thread to Weather and Ice Animations thread. That way you can easily compare ice movement with the weather at that time.

I prefer to separate ice animation from weather animations. And I also prefer regularly prolific posters enjoy their own "mini blog" threads rather than get in each other's way, as long as such threads can be reasonably categorized.

I really like the pacing. You can cross reference it to all kind of short term vids or graphs from the Melt Season/Nullschool forecasts because it is actually easy to follow.
