Talking about climat change and walking the walk
« on: March 03, 2019, 10:35:20 AM »
Hello,

I have a new job since the 15th of January, I work for the local administration, mainly to manage the maintenance and upgrade of the local infrastructure. One part of the work is to manage locally the Luxembourgish national CO2 reduction objectives.

In that last part, there is a part "information work to the local community", so I'm looking for interesting documents that can be shared (links from a web-site) or published in local papers.

It can be about climate change, about policies and solutions, or about walking the walk. The only issue is that it has to be "politically correct", and I believe that I am safe as long as I stay technical. For example UNI Bremen has a document about Klimawandel that might very well do the job https://www.mpi-bremen.de/Klimawandel.html (I am just suprised by parts of the page about Climate Engineering, brightening clouds over the see to reduce climate change is something I never heard of).

Another example I like is the energy consumption data https://sites.fas.harvard.edu/~histecon/energyhistory/energydata.html

If you have similar links to provide, I'd be very interested. I prefer French and German, but maybe other people are looking for other languages, and English can always be used or translated.

Thanks, best regards,

Etienne

Why Good Politics And Good Climate Science Don’t Mix

Great article on climate action.

Quote
Imagine two people walking through a field. One of them tiptoes gingerly, zigging and zagging from one side to another. The other strides confidently straight ahead. Who looks more like they know what they’re doing?

Now what if I told you the field is full of land mines?

Confidence doesn’t equal competence. But our brains tend to assume it does. And that can create big problems when scientific evidence collides with political rhetoric. The senator who confidently throws a snowball to prove that winter is cold can be more memorable (and more believable) than the one who takes the podium to carefully explain how we know fossil fuel use is changing climate over decades. “Denialism has an advantage. Absolutely. There’s no question,” said Stephan Lewandowsky, professor of cognitive psychology at the University of Bristol in the UK.

Etienne, you may already be aware of these sites, but they are a good resource of solutions and policy suggestions for an urban and regional response to climate change and other issues.

Thank you very much for all the links.

For the french speaking people, here is another one that is quite interesting :

I like very much the way Wallonia make their energy internet sites because they provide usefull tips.
