Help with Toastmasters Speech?
« on: July 10, 2020, 03:23:22 PM »
I am on the Presentation Mastery Pathway. I will give my second speech in two or three weeks
The Goal:
Quote
The purpose of this project is to learn or review basic research methods and present a well organized, well researched speech on any topic.
I would like to do something on AGW. The main constraint is 5-7 minutes. Any advice on sources or other points would be appreciated.
This will be done over Zoom. I will be speaking before a slightly right of center audience.

Tom this is cheating on your home work.
Just pick something simple where you know you can explain a point and delve into that.
Plan out the talk a bit.

Possibly post the short version and any discuss doubts or questions or needed citations then.

PS: What is this Toastmaster thing about?

Make it personal, or directly applicable to your audience — not just stats about far-off lands in far-off times.  As Katharine Hayhoe says, even conservative farmers can appreciate cheaper [wind] energy and help dealing with increasing drought.
People who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it.

Tom,

As your speech is on research, I find that many of the Explainers on Carbon Brief are clear, concise and slightly right of center w.r.t. climate change.  So why don't you take a look at the linked archive of Carbon Brief Explainers for inspiration:

https://www.carbonbrief.org/category/in-focus/explainers

and/or
