Cleanup of stickies
« on: December 04, 2020, 11:29:39 AM »
Hi. Would be good if mods could unsticky obsolete threads that is taking up space and push active discussions further down the page.

Examples are the poll threads in the arctic subforum:
https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,3230.0.html
https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,3229.0.html
https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,3228.0.html
And some of the threads in this forum:
https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,2155.0.html
https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,254.0.html

Even outside obviously obsolete threads, there are other stickies that have very sparse activity, or whose topic have drifted away from what it was originally intended for, so that I'm not sure it deserves to still be stickied anymore, at least not any more than most other threads. Such as the "MOSAiC news" thread (the expedition is over), "Arctic Image of the day" and "Home brew AMSR2 extent & area calculation".

Good points.
I have un-stickied the poll threads, this was simple neglect on my part.
I will keep Mosaic sticky as it is the favorite blogging place by the esteemed A-Team and also has lots of interesting updates by uniquorn and others.
Home brew and Arctic image are good threads by long-time posters Espen and Wipneus I'd like to hear more from, but it seems activity is indeed low and sporadic. What do others think of unstickying them?

In the Forum subsection quite a few that are no longer sticky-relevant, these can be handled by b.c. who is in charge there.

Yep, would like to cast a vote to keep mosaic sticky as excellent citizen science in there

Removing the polls cleaned it up nicely.

I think we can unsticky the APOTD too. When someone posts a picture worth of including we can point them there.

As the starter of the mosaic news thread, I recognise that it has drifted off topic a bit while we wait for or investigate interesting mosaic news but it's very active. I don't think it really matters if it is sticky or not unless the colour makes a difference.

Today's active discussions being pushed down the Arctic Sea Ice page.

A reminder of why the Home Brew amsr2 thread has changed focus recently. An amazing opportunity to help development of a new product with user feedback. Disappointing that there is so little participation.
Data from sep4 available from ftp://ftp.awi.de/sea_ice/product/amsr2/v103/

Please check this out:  8)

Should be based on latest 24 hour AMSR2 swath data if the automated processing works.

This is still under development. Feedback about the data format is appreciated.

Landmask=101
Missing=102

Is the colorscale fine?
Do you need NetCDF?
Does the GeoTiff projection work with your GIS as it should? I tried QGIS only.

New land mask: Danmark and Hagen Fjord north of Greenland are now visible. This is a bug in most other data products!

After some testing I will provide the reprocessed data and updates through AWI ftp site. UHH product will cease.[/size]
