Incredible photo by James Crombie of a starling murmuration at Lough Ennell, central Ireland.

How did they know how to form a giant bird ?

No idea but it looks awesome.  :)

Startling hen murmuration , Culdaff , Ireland .

returned with mother (93) to Davenport's cottage . Made friends with the free range hens last time . Tonight I was walking past their roosting shed when I unexpectedly said out loud , Thank you God . Next moment the shed of hens started to sing , in prefect harmony up and down scales in waves like a jazz choir . It was being done at the volume of gentle cooing but with so many hens at once , the depth of sound was amazing . Never heard anything like it before .

No pictures as yet, but the starlings have recently returned to Davidstow/Bodmin Moor.

A blast from the past, when I found myself in the middle of a murmuration at dusk.

Roughtor shrouded in mist in the background. Brown Willy totally obscured!

The local starlings were on fine form earlier this evening:

The video quality on Twatter leaves something to be desired though. I'll try doing a YouTube version as and when time allows.

A longer and somewhat more professional video of yesterday's murmuration of the Roughtor starlings, with added music:
