David Glacier / Drygalski Ice Tongue
« on: January 16, 2022, 09:08:49 AM »
Located in the Ross Sea, what is perhaps the most phallic glacier in the world had a rare calving yesterday! While there have been some other minor calvings on the sides, this is the first time since 2005 that the very tip calves, in other word that the ice tongue becomes shorter.

It’s 20km wide and must be 60km long. Ish.

Thank you for that information grixm.
I usually scan the Amundsen and Ross Seas coast just to this ice tongue in EOSDIS several times a week to find calving events. But I didn't do so the last two days, so it is your merit to have detected it.  :)
