BlueSky

As many climate scientists and people interested in climate have now decided that BlueSky is where they'd rather be I just thought I'd share the list Ketan Joshi has created to rebuild the community.

If anyone would like to try out BlueSky and wants to get an invitation code, feel free to send me a PM.  I have several of them...

It was once difficult to find invites to Bluesky, but, I suppose as a result of the platform reaching a certain critical mass, I rarely find anyone to share an invite with.
I also have some available!

Indeed, Bluesky will have 2 million users soon.  Although the number of active users is obviously lower than that.

Some people even go to Twitter to distribute their Bluesky invite codes there.  There still seems to be demand for it there.

The "Discover" tab on Bluesky has way too much politics for my taste.  But at least the local timeline got interesting after following enough people, including some people that I used to follow on Twitter and hadn't seen in a long time.

There are still some features lacking: no support for gif animations and hashtags.  Mastodon does that better.  But I'm sure Bluesky will add those features too at some point.

I'm transferring to Bluesky, and there's an addon I just found that transfers all the people you're following on Twitter to BlueSky. You can also transfer your Tweets with Python, but I have to figure that one out.

https://www.wikihow.com/Import-Twitter-to-Bluesky

Quick Steps
Install the Sky Follower Bridge browser extension for Chrome or Firefox.
Go to https://x.com/following and log in.
Open the Sky Follower Bridge extension and enter your Bluesky login info.
Click Find Bluesky Users to find the same users you followed on Bluesky.
Click Follow on Bluesky to add each user.

Almost all the important "climate " accounts have moved to B🦋sky.
The same is true for accounts covering the war in Ukraine and defense specialists.
Very few bots and trolls are visible for the moment.
They banned Andrew Tate instantly. (A smart move)

It looks like most people are moving to BlueSky now. Twitter will be dead soon. It'll just be Elonia and his followers on Twitter. Trump supporters went back to Truth Social.

"Snow" - https://bsky.app/profile/greatwhitecon.info

Cryospheric Scientists - https://bsky.app/starter-pack/jim-hunt.bsky.social/3l4iognytd32x

Suggestions welcome for additions to the latter.
I got you back on both accounts.

Here's my account for those that want it.

Just made it to 1000 followers on Twitter, and now I have to start all over again.  :-[
But the most important thing is the people I follow, and that app is excellent for that. Just add that browser extension, and check it from time to time to see who else went to BlueSky.

Threads is also suffering now. That'll probably die too. Not sure what Mark was trying to do with it. He really messed that up, and I'm glad he did.
