Hello Everyone,
I just found the current update, and wanted to let anyone interested know that Ice Camp Barneo is underway:

It seems there's an English language Barneo Facebook page. It also seems as if  polar bears are curious about Ice Camp Barneo, and not just us humans:

Thanks Jim; I don't spend much time on FB and hadn't seen the Barneo page. It's pretty amazing being able to keep up to date with their updates from anywhere in the world.  8)

Bears at almost 90N?  Are we sure that's where the video was shot? Did not think they strayed that far from shore.

Bears at almost 90N?

From the Facebook page:

Quote
Coordinates: 89°27.927’ N, 031°16.378’ E

The skydivers told us about the bears: when they were constructing the runway, a she-bear with two cubs came around. They were quite friendly and curious and wouldn’t go in spite of signal pistol sounds. Vladimir Pligin made a video of them and shared with us.

Do you remember the evidence of bears on webcams from last summer? Apparently they like chewing the wires on ice mass balance buoys too!

Bad news on their Facebook page. Seems the latest airdrop had problems and some equipment got damaged. I hope at least one of the 3 webcam setups survived.

I figure the bit that says:

Quote
Andy Heiberg and Jamie Morison arrived at Barneo with a group of American scientists and a planeload of scientific equipment.

means the webcams are all AOK.

From the Barneo Facebook page the camp seems to have drifted a bunch already.
