Tobias Gletscher / Ingolf Fjord / North East Greenland
« on: July 20, 2014, 05:43:11 PM »
In the very north of North East Greenland, and just south of Flade Isblink, in the area called Amdrup Land and inside Ingolf Fjord, we have another sizable glacier called Tobias Gletscher, a 5 km outlet glacier. The glacier retreated considerably in the period 2006 - 2014 (earlier documentation is hard to find).

Sorry to hear that, Sonia. Is it your browser? It animated for me.  In fact it seems too animated! Thanks for all your work on here, Espen. It's much appreciated and I often wish we had a Like button on the forum.

ETA: I mean, the glacier seems too animated, not the animation itself which worked fine just after Espen posted it.

It cant be too animated, I think it is the only straight forward way to explain what is going on up there, in a very simple fashion?

Huh.  And now it's working fine.  No idea why it wouldn't have worked for me earlier.  Computers are flaky.

Hope you'll be able to upload a pic dating august 2014, in due time, Espen! Makes the pics more "comparable", less "noisy", meaning less snow! The temps lately at Greenland (since June at least for most parts!) must have done Wonders to the meltrate...

My fancy for ice & glaciers started in 1995:-).

I had to right click and open in a new window to get it to animate. That is fine for me, just mentioning it in case it helps others.

The forum software seems occasionally to be picky on the file that is uploaded. I normally create animations with ImageMagick scripts. If a file (that animates fine directly on my computer) does not work I either: drop a few frames or load and export the file with the Gimp. Until now that has always worked.
Espen's image did not work here either at first, so he probably also knows a few tricks to get the thing going.

I still have to click the "Tobias-2006-2014.gif" line to make it open, but I normally don't give up easily :P.

Updating old threads.

It looks much the same, maybe it’s height decreased slightly. The calving line is about the same location. It is noticeably darker. But that may be due to the heat this summer?
