Mount Kenya glaciers
« on: October 19, 2023, 09:29:00 AM »
Thought I'd make this thread for documenting the demise of one of the rare African glaciers. These glaciers are melting rapidly and will all be gone within a decade or two most likely.

Mount Kenya is one of only three African mountains that still have glaciers, the other two being Kilimanjaro (which already has a thread) and Rwenzori (which I'll probably make a thread for too, unless someone else does first)

It has not been so easy to tell what glaciers still remain since many of them are covered in dirt and look camouflaged on satellite, but I attached a recent Sentinel-2 photo with labeling to the best of my abilities, plus an unlabeled google maps satellite photo from sometime kind of recent, as well as a map with proper labels but that is a bit outdated by now.
