thank you lmP .. Scoresby's description of the ice disappearing makes me even more certain that next year we will be seeing more open water and for longer .. than those scientists referred to above expected to see in their lifetimes . Madness  !

The big floe is fully within Robeson Channel today, per Polar View image.

and has moved quickly south the last few days . An even bigger floe is approaching the entrance . Will it break up and enter the straight or is there still ice that can plug the Nares ?

The dmi 80'N anomaly is rising again and the 850 mb anomalies are going redder with every run , it looks like the rest of the year will be as anomalous as last Christmas . With the Fram pump primed and loaded with our thickest ice , the situation to our North is going critical . Unless something changes quickly Arctic ice is fast heading out of the atlas and into the history book ..

when banks were given the freedom to lend many times the amount of security they actually had ; the money became available to pour into destroying the future . Any returns are free money to the 1% , as the loans made to the 'little people' have to be repaid . Our planet has become a casino and the rich cannot lose (at this stage) . This is where the funding of Climate catastrophe has come from .

The last 48 hours of sentinel images on DMI of the NE of Greenland show the thick multiyear ice being primed for rapid export thru Fram . The fracturing and movement off-shore seems to show the ice is in the poorest condition I have seen in the area in any season  .. b.c.

In my part of the world just allowing ivy to grow and mature on the trees would shift farms a way toward zero . Multi-dimensional farming (permaculture-like) can quickly boost carbon capture , increase life and abundance , and reduce the need to zero for artificial fertilizer . (funny .. I just realized we have always referred to it as 'artificial' .. not 'fertilizer' in rural Ireland . After all , real fertilizer is 'real' .

If current forecasts are anything like reality , December looks like quickly becoming a very bad month for Arctic sea ice .. perhaps especially for volume . Mad temperature anomalies look to return combining with Fram export of multi-year ice , as lows deepen over water where ice should be ..
 I would like to be wrong but I feel Zack Labe will have another busy month .

meddoc .. would be true if we were starting with a frozen planet . Thankfully we are not .
SIS .. for the last 4 weeks most of the heat has been very obviously pouring into the arctic drowning out any local imput (see my reply 293 ) . As this pattern is now changing so will Arctic temps .
 Autumn in the Arctic is nearly over .. it's been exciting .. much more so than watching ice melt in summer ..
Thanks to all contributers lately .. I now realize I have to wait till after events like this for science to comment ..

Has PMT got pmt ?   Not much happening up north ?
 Much of the Arctic is currently too warm to stop an ice lolly melting and the forecasts suggest little change . DMI 80 @ 15'C above norm .. a 960mb low within 48 hours drawing more warm wet  weather with it .
  Must go back to bed .. nothing to see here folks ....

just as the heat wave of the next 5 days end .. we have a new autumnal storm heading in to the Arctic . some models have pressure below 960 mb .Whatever the pressure, lots more heat and moisture heading poleward ! .. and of coure wind,waves .. and tides..

An embarassingly amateur observer here , but certainly paying attention . Watching the drama unfold is extraordinary . We are probably in the middle of weather with at least the importance of the 2012 GAC .. but almost without commentary .
Is an 80mb pressure gradient between pole and ESS abnormal ? . Is a storm below 965 mb unusual at this time ? . The temperatures ? The winds and waves ? The stalling freeze ? ..
 The rapid seperation of this season from the pack will keep my ring-side seat warm all winter !

The next week looks like being dramatic across the Arctic , LMV's long predicted cyclonic monster is now predicted across the models ... pouring warmth into the Pacific side while a thrust of extra warm air pushes in from the Atlantic . Run an 850 anomaly forecast to see the warmth meet across the Arctic ..
Whither the weather is as dramatic  as forecast ; it certainly looks like the 'new' Arctic autumn/fall season is not yet over .
I would love those with a longer eye on all things Arctic to discuss the 'unusualness' of this event . This could be a week that really matters to the Arctic .... bc.

EOSDISWorldview provides a wonderful view of the Fram-ward movement of the ice north of Greenland over the last 2 weeks . Wish I had the skills to share . Most of the ice has moved 100km toward oblivion and with the forecast winds supporting accellerating export the melting season continues even as area etc grow . bc .

GEM was well ahead in predicting current developments . At the moment it's 240 has a central Arctic storm below 960 !

Because I was 'bright' , my parents saw my future as not being on the family farm . My mother saw me as a doctor. my father , as a bank manager . I wanted to grow up outdoors .. not in classrooms and colleges .
I successfully became a failure in my parent's eyes. Now I live in a 70's mobile home bought for £1000 10 years ago . I have a few acres which I am turning into a forest garden for future generations .
Living in N. Ireland ;I have no drought problem My well is full ! Last night was the second of violent thunder and lightening in a week . My climate is changing too .. to more rain , wind and warmth .
I thank all who choose to lessen their destructive impact on this wonderful gift of a planet we live on .
