Pareidolia
From Wikipedia:
Pareidolia (/pærɪˈdoʊliə/ parr-i-DOH-lee-ə) is the tendency to interpret a vague stimulus as something known to the observer, such as seeing shapes in clouds, seeing faces in inanimate objects or abstract patterns, or hearing hidden messages in music.
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, ...
Well, some of us are looking at satellite images and clouds from above on a daily basis. I think it should be entertaining if we share, what our brain makes of things.
-
I'm gonna start with a goat!
-
I had a blog post on this, back in 2011: Arctic Faces (https://neven1.typepad.com/blog/2011/04/arctic-faces.html).
Pareidolia is fun!
-
Glad you like it Neven! :)
Here's a rat for you.
-
I thought those were a llama (I started typing lama, whoops) and a seal. I see "lineations" in the Petermann (https://forum.arctic-sea-ice.net/index.php/topic,53.msg184436.html#msg184436) Glacier tongue! :)
-
I don't know if lineations in a glacier qualify, but hey, who am i to judge. Could be a snake also, right? ;)
I do see the Llama (as in Lloyd) but i don't see the seal.

Pic or it didn't happen B.C. :P

OK .. it didn't happen .. b.c.

Well spotted by Niall Dollard here:
Beautiful sentinel image (dated 030619) of the blue ice at the head of Tanquary Fiord, north central Ellesmere Island.
Reminds me of a leopard's head.
-
Not sure what i'd call it or the apparition on it's back, doesn't look benign.

Hahahaha. Nice one.

Posted in the other thread so let me link a duck:
A frantic baby elephant makes a dash for the Bering Strait.
It's a duck now. :)
-
Before, someone was angry, now they're vomiting:
-
Poor guy haha.
-
Woody Woodpecker seems to enjoy the show:
-
OMG awesome catch! <3
-
And that is where it breaks down for me...
Long ago in the Netherlands we had Wordt Vervolgd on TV. It was a TV show about comics and it had an item with kids imitating the voices one of their three heroes.
These were Donald Duck quacking a bit. Then Road Runner. One small kid just said 'miep miep zoef' which was sort of accurate even if it was just the text without the sound effect. It became a running gag in my family. The third one was that Woody Woodpecker but I can't remember the look or sound. It took me years even to remember WW was the third one in the contest (i cheated and asked my family who the third was).
So I don't see WW there but that is just the limits of pareidolia...
-
Ha, I remember Wordt Vervolgd, with Han Peekel. ;D
Here's what WW looks like:
If you want to hear the laugh, I can give you my phone number. ;)
-
Co-incidentally just heard this Mel Blanc Woody Woodpecker song on the radio the other day. 2 minutes of lunacy !
https://youtu.be/vre6O5szlig
-
Now I see the picture I see him in the ice too...that song though. :o
-
Well, the ice gets it i guess!
-
it's probably a good job I can't share what I see .. I see hundreds of faces , beings and animals every day .. b.c.
-
Fortunately for me, with the rarest of exceptions, the faces I see every day are attached to my friends, neighbors, coworkers, family and Houdi (my wife's 21 year old cat, which I call an elephant, but I think you don't want to here that story).

OK: I grew up a 'dog person', partly because the several cats we had all died young. So when my wife and kids got Houdi (after Houdini because, as a kitten, he would climb the textured wall paper to the ceiling), I was excused from caring for him because "I hate cats" (or so I said - you know, it's a political thing). Well, the kids grew up and left home (all in their 30's now - I should be grateful). My wife regularly 'teases' me by asking if I love Houdi, so I have come to reply, "Yes I do, because he is an elephant." Houdi is grey in color, so why not? And I do 'love' elephants (I even receive an "elephants - 'good news'" weekly Google e-mail). With the special needs of an older cat, I do a fair amount of care for him (the 3 kids in town don't come around on a twice-daily basis to do what they promised 21 years ago - sigh … kids these days!), but that's okay because I love elephants (and my wife).
-
snipped
i didn't know that the elephants already migrated up to north west greenland ;) ;) LOL
hope you know the image from last week that i'm referring to.
at least we finally know how "Jesus" succeeded to walk over the lake ;)

Long time no post in this thread.
Found a sad penguin in Antarctica.

Tintin's dog Snowy, looking across the Nares Strait !
-
So he is bottom right? (I don´t see him, then again never been a Tin Tin fan. Only captain Haddock).
-
If the polynya in northern Kane is the nose, i see a doggy (head). But i don't see Snowy.
-
This is my favorite image of the planet. When I first saw this - while using Google Earth - I was amazed. And I'm not sure anyone else ever saw it. So here it is...
Can you see it?
-
If the polynya in northern Kane is the nose, i see a doggy (head). But i don't see Snowy.
I saw the same as you, a dog standing with his hind legs on a rock while drinking from the "river". No Bobbie... (That's what we call snowy in Belgium)
-
Can you see it?
The Indian Elephant of course.

I posted this one a while back in the Arctic Image of the Day thread.
The spirits of dying polar bears all over the place... (If you believe in that shit ??? )

Roadrunner is pretty clear. Maybe someone will get top animate him if the season cooperates. ;)
I do remember the polar bear too. Good one too add.

I see a demon grabbing that kid in a hoody on the left. ;D :D

Lots going on here. I think I see both of what you guys mentioned.

Maybe i saw Batman only because i saw the Community[1] episode yesterday where Abed wore a Badman costume. ;)

Interesting choices for the Lena river. I´ll settle for a nice paint scheme for Khornite units. ;D

Definitely creepy! :o

Before I saw B_'s comment I thought "aw, cute ghost angel."
Even I didn't know there was such a thing as a ghost angel! :)
-
Am I the only one who sees the dolphin ?
Just asking because of the creepy part, even the eye is where it belongs, mouth is open.
-
Am I the only one who sees the dolphin ?
I can see it. A river dolphin ridden by a weirdo holing its head, or a sperm whale that could also be a big dolphin.
But damn the creepy baby... :-\

Nobody has been able to see it, so I have to post this again...

Uh, Earth???

I saw an elephant head in India, but now I see the face of a Polar bear in China. Could that be it?
-
Giant ammonite impression discovered in Arctic.
Paleontologists now revising their views of these Mesozoic creatures.
-
You don't see the dutch girl with pony tails pressing her boobs under the nose of her big doglike creature? Mother nature and her guardian?
-
I I can't see boobs, there are no boobs...
But i think you mean pigtails?
Can't see any of that anyway. Maybe the dog, barely.
-
Yes, pigtails. I always get those mixed up. :-\
Her skirt is India. I can see it so clearly...
The Arabian Peninsula is the foot of the big doglike creature walking. With big ears...
Maybe I smoke too much weed. ;D
-
Why is it a dutch girl? Also i am voting yes. ;)
-
Yes, pigtails. I always get those mixed up. :-\

The Arabian Peninsula is the foot of the big doglike creature walking. With big ears...
Maybe I smoke too much weed. ;D
I am certain I see her. She's sort of bending at the waist a bit right? She might be German... But I don't see the doglike creature... Is it in the water?
-
LOL why German? If India is the skirt then were are the legs?
-
Yes, pigtails. I always get those mixed up. :-\

I am certain I see her. She's sort of bending at the waist a bit right? She might be German... But I don't see the doglike creature... Is it in the water?
Yes, she's bending backwards a little, with two pigtails. What looks like her boobs (or an arm) is touching the nose of the doglike creature that basically takes up all of Asia minus Russia (which he carries on his back). You can clearly see its head. The body needs more imagination. It's kinda like a walking teddy bear with Arabia as one of its legs. China is the head, and in it you can see an eye, a nose, and a big ear hanging down.
Why dutch? Probably my imagination running wild... ;D
-
Finally can see what you mean. Her head is in Thailand. The skirt is long, no legs/feet below. Pigtails sort of. And it's an arm.
-
You got it Oren. :D Sri Lanka is one of her feet kicking back.
-
Finally can see what you mean. Her head is in Thailand. The skirt is long, no legs/feet below. Pigtails sort of. And it's an arm.
Yeah, her face is Thailand, I see her looking towards the water... her left pig tail (on the right for us as I see it) is Thailand and mainland Malaysia.
But I don't see her as bending backwards, but as bending forwards slightly like she's waiting a table or stooping to pick a flower... (I see it more with Sri Lanka as heal, but her face is still turned -- in the image -- down and right).
Why German? Well the dutch damsel photo is pretty convincing, but image attached (skirt is too short though... and maybe the beer cheapens it, I donno).

ice melt demon

Hello and welcome to the forum, Tyv! :)

I guess i spent too much time too close to dutch girls to see this. :)
I see the demon right away and the ammonite too.

Greenland Sea today...that´s some kind of deer?
I was thinking goat or sheep with a human eye, but that completely depends on what kind of drugs you're on... ;D
PS: That ghost hand is really good. :)
Oh yeah. I love that pirate with the creepy hand. Made me think of pirates of the Caribbean.
It was especially cool that both were in the Greenland sea at the same day. Some kind of voodoo day? :-\
And I was completely sober! :o
Here's the link to them for future generations...

Nellie the icelephant , anyone ?
Yes...especially with the N. polar eye!
However, judging by the modest ears, it is probably a mammoth.
Perhaps the ice cap is signalling a looming extinction.
-
Lets call her Nellie the Mammoth then.
To Bombay a traveling circus came, they brought an
cloned mammoth and Nellie was her name
One dark night she slipped her iron chain
And off she ran to the Arctic Sea
And was never seen again
Until the satellite era
Makes more sense then i thought it would with some minor adaptations.
Sadly the second verse is a bit ruin these days. ;)
