The Healy is now in the Chukchi off Cape Lisburne and on the edge of the ice:

Anyone have comments about the condition of the ice?  I don't see a lot of freeboard on it.

Sample:

Worth noting, the ship is pretty deep int the pack. The pack is rather not solid.

You're trying to eyeball a difference between 10cm and 50cm of freeboard from a camera with unknown resolution , unknown exposure time, unknown distance to the ice, unknown viewing angle, with no points of reference other than the (unknown) dimensions of the ship railings, which are also at at unknown distance from the camera with an unknown viewing angle.

Putting this kindly... that is a challenging endeavour.
