Consequences / Re: COVID-19

Our institutions are to blame for the spread of conspiracy theories around the globe. They have failed the people time after time. Can we blame people for resorting to magical thinking and conspiracies to try and understand why the world is falling around them?

The Q anon thing as well as blaming WHO are not just positions taken by Trump supporters and conservatives. I have family and friends around me who don't have a political bone in their body, who are usually rational  and smart people, telling  me that covid19 is a hoax and Bill Gates is trying to murder us with vaccines.

They saw how the WHO failed us the one time we needed them  most, how the experts lied to us about masks at the beginning of the pandemic. These kind of failures don't come without consequences. People are losing faith in institutions and are flailing for answers. I expect more people will turn to conspiracies and magical thinking in the future.

I really don't understand the culture in this forum of people leaving and deleting their accounts anytime there is a disagreement. Take a few days and cool off instead, then reflect. After this people can solve their arguments with less emotions and insults involved.

Don't abandon this place because you have all built something special here. Its not worth it to throw away years of work for an argument.

With my tired eyes I find the new thumbnails to be too small. Did not realize the GIF limit would be the thumbnail limit. Maybe an increase back to 400 will be better?

Yes absolutely! Please increase it back...

That is a massive recalibration, 750 GT~ less ice melted than they originally said. What does that mean for sea level rise...Will that have to be recalibrated as well?

CDC Adds Six New Possible Coronavirus Symptoms
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/cdc-adds-six-new-possible-coronavirus-symptoms-2020-04-25/

... The agency has updated its list to include: chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and new loss of taste or smell. Shortness of breath has also been changed to "shortness of breath or difficulty breathing." The full list now is:

- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain
- Headache
- Sore throat
- New loss of taste or smell

A runny nose rarely occurs with COVID-19, and sneezing is still not a symptom of the virus.

Any of the now nine symptoms may appear anywhere from 2-14 days after exposure to the virus, according to the agency.

Some younger patients have reported painful or burning sensation in their toes, possibly caused by small clots in the capillaries.

Well these new symptoms confirm to me that my family probably got this virus in early December after someone in our family came back from a 2 weeks trip in China in November.

I'm a younger guy and had pretty much all those symptoms. It was a nasty virus and I never felt anything like it. It took my mom over a month to beat it. Back then no one in Canada knew about coronavirus so ... This has been spreading for longer than they say.
