Forecast rain via NOAA

Nothing over 1/4" (60 mm) predicted in 2 days (Nov 2 & 3, basically) except for small parts of Oregon, Washington (state), Maine and Massachusetts, and probably some snow in Alaska (Nov 1 forecast) in the southern panhandle.

lol .. if we can't mention the election in weather threads , surely we can't allow weather to get a mention in the election threads ... b.c.  ;D

Some years ago i think someone asked on this forum if there was a space for personal diaries, and i think the answer was "No."

Perhaps a "diary" could be in a new grouping (perhaps called "Diaries") where anyone could begin a thread and be, if they wished,  the only one to post to it by timely use of the "Lock Thread" mechanism ... the diarist could unlock the thread to post anew, and lock it after the post hit. Or they could have an unlocked, collective diary for all to relate their days.

If such a scheme were implemented, i suggest that posts on the putative "Diaries" grouping be absent from the "New posts" presentation on the front page.

sidd

.. I support this suggestion and only wish blumenkraft were here to implement it .

I would also ask if the entire ' off topic ' section be removed from the 'front page' .. to prevent any further ' accidents' dominating the 'recent posts' .. Neven ???   b.c.

Imagine an America where all taxes were paid in full by the rich and corporations . One in which every nook and cranny of avoidance was sorted as the new base line of responsible being .
The trillions of dollars sucked from the environment and the rest of the world to prop up the monster would be no longer needed . Everyone could have the best of medical care etc , care homes and carers would be fully funded . and And AND ...

SB&N:
My understanding is that Trump used the laws to pay the minimum possible. That’s fine. I pay an accountant to make my taxes the minimum possible. So do a hundred million Americans. Now, if Trump broke the law that’s different. And maybe the laws should be different than they are, but they are what they are.

a decent man would do different ..

Gerontocrat's stats say 99.8% of the melt season is over , today is the last day of an average melt season . Already some have ceased to update their stats as others head for the 'real' excitement of an election . Putting this season to bed so early may turn out to be a mistake .
This is not an average melt season . It has been one of record breaking warmth . The ice , as Polarstern bears witness , is in a mobile , weak state . The damage done by the depression N. of the CAA was remarkable . As BFTV has remarked above , and A-team elsewhere , ice retreats with little resistance N. of Laptev ; and warm winds continue in the coming days
Warm water , wind and waves are in wait , and will be for another week or two .  If a real storm enters the basin and stays a few days , volume and area could come crashing down  , extent may too . b.c.

I suppose we could break the trend .. perhaps a day 5 forecast will be realized for the 1'st time in over a month . I said at the end of July that what the Arctic needed for August was 'no weather' .. compared to the day 5 forecasts , it really had none , as storm after storm faded from forecasts . August continued with the heat ; will September bring the 'weather' ? b.c.
