The May average sea ice area was 18.12 million km2, 0.36 million km2 below the lomg-term linear trend, 0.67 million km2 above the May 2023 average, and 8th lowest in the 46 year satellite record.

The 365 day trailing average rose by 56k km2 in the month, reflecting the very low global sea ice area in May 2023. The average is now 0.88 million km2 below the longterm linear trend, and 0.33 million km2 above the record low in Dec 2023.
