We are still out of luck and probably will be for the rest of this month. Yesterdays headlines are now reality for the Brits.

So yes, there is the aftermath from our little beastie from the eastie. But new warnings only given when new stuff is coming in.

It is still a bit cold with a nip in the breeze but that's Spring.

So that's the reason for your joke here yesterday?
From now, until the end of the month at least, the weather in Middle England is going to be ordinary- yes, completely and utterly ordinary. Not very cold, not very warm. Not very wet, not very dry. Not very windy, not very calm. Not very sunny, not very cloudy.

Weird, or what.

After thrashing the Southeast U.S. (see above), this system is morphing into yet another winter storm for the northeast.

“Here is an update on the upcoming winter storm, including the potential for severe weather today and tonight across eastern sections of NC, SC, and GA, and much of the Florida peninsula.”

In a world with increased oceanic heat, increased hemispheric albedo, and decreased sea ice, weather increasingly becomes a function of geography and albedo... this is why the planet spirals rapidly into ice ages. We lose seasons! In 100 years it is going to be perpetual summer over the oceans and winter over land above 40N.

The problem is that in the past 3 million years it hasn't gotten more that +1c warmer than we are now.  So what is the strong negative feed back loop that kicks in between where we are now and +1 hotter?

Hullo Sleepy,

I am developing my "Little Englander" stereotype. So, as regards the weather warnings in Europe, that is another reason for Brexit. Keep your weather over there.

Meanwhile in the USA:-

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2018/03/fourth-noreaster-of-march-and-first-of-the-spring-is-here.html
Fourth Nor’easter of March, and First of the Spring, Hits East Coast

Quote
For the fourth time in three weeks, a nor’easter is bearing down on New York City. Schools are closed and thousands of flights have been canceled in anticipation of as much as 18 inches of snow falling. If the forecast holds, the city will be looking at its largest-ever springtime snowfall, a record currently held by the 11.8 inches that fell on March 21, 1958.

Why all this rain? Blame a strong 'atmospheric river' known as the 'pineapple express'
Quote
Is this atmospheric river bad?
It might be. UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain wrote on his California Weather Blog that this storm is the strongest of the year. Heavy precipitation is expected from California’s central coast and southern Sierra Nevada all the way south to the Southern California coastal plain.

“This storm concerns me at least as much as the January 9th storm and perhaps somewhat more given the higher expected rain totals, broader region affected, and the potential for the [atmospheric river] to stall out somewhere inopportune,” Swain wrote.

A big problem is that very heavy precipitation appears to be focused on Santa Barbara and possibly Ventura County, which endured recent wildfires. In a burned area, a wildfire can make soils repellant to water, creating a floodlike flow on the ground that picks up rock and debris, which is known as a debris flow.

It never stops - GFS says another Nor'Easter (the fifth) on April Fools' Day. I know it's a long way off but it has been pretty accurate for the last 4 storms.
If it happens it looks like a mixture of snow and RAIN, which could be a problem - rapid thaw.

Five in a row? Anyone would think there might be a weather pattern here.

The Weather Channel sold.

The estimated $300million value of the deal shows the declining value of cable networks. In 2008, The Weather Channel was acquired by Bain Capital, Blackstone, and NBCUniversal in 2008 for $3.5billion.

I think "science" is generally constrained by dogma and ignorance. Since 1789, the $ has ruled in terms of research and what results must show. This is why climate science has remained extremely inaccurate, in fact, I would say most "climate scientists" are no better than alchemists from the middle ages.

Of course, examples like Hansen and Jennifer Francis exist, but they are few and far between. If you read between the lines of their research the conclusion is obvious but even institutions like Columbia University are deeply engrained within a status quo to support the $.

I know it may sound incorrect, but in fact, impending re-glaciation is WORSE than global warming. Global warming is a distant problem that the public perceives to be irrelevant to current times, while rapidly increasing hemispheric snowfall is a phenomenon happening TODAY.

Why do you think no-one knows about this? Because it is the same thing that led to the French Revolution/etc in the first place (I.E., "The Little Ice Age"). The public is a blind mob that believes what they are told. My post here will be perceived as inane drivel by some (what was that gerontocrat said -- hyperbole? OK), but that will not change the fact that temperatures have not increased above a +1-2C vs baseline in three million years, and that whenever rapid warming has occurred WITHIN an ice age (which we are due to Greenland and Antarctica's existence), it has thereafter resulted in a rapid WORSENING of the ice age.

Why do humans always believe their period of existence to be exceptional? This kind of thinking is completely illogical however it is understandable since most humans are raised to blindly comply with a corporate educational curriculum and any independent thinking in the West is usually eliminated by the need to acquire and spend $.

Chief among these issues I raise ^ is the idea that science has painted anyone who doesn't believe in the normal AGW narrative as "ignorant". Why? Because it is better to have 8 billion plebes believe that problems are only relevant to tomorrow, rather than face the consequence that civilizational collapse could be rather more imminent.

The question is this what is stronger the as yet undefined negative feed back loop or the CO2?  Or the methane that the ESAS is getting ready to release?

If we get more snowfall than snow melt then we rebuild the ice sheets.  Albedo kicks GHG butt every day.

Want to experience near-hurricane force winds? Bura in Kvarner and Dalmatia in the next 24 hours is the place to be.

"The same cutoff low over the central Mediterranean that is choking Crete in thick Saharan dust and causing intense snowfall in southern Italy is also causing intense Bura winds in Croatia. Bura is an intense downslope (catabatic) northeasterly wind along the eastern coast of the Adriatic sea. It frequently reaches near-hurricane strenghts, gusting up to nearly and sometimes well over 200 km/h.

Expect peak wind gusts along the coast of Kvarner to reach 150-170 km/h, and may locally approach 200 km/h."

Re:"as yet undefined negative feed back loop"

precisely. Postulate a mechanism and we can calculate. no mechanism, no calculation possible.

in this context i recall at least two studies showing that present anthro climate forcing has suppressed the next two possible onsets of glaciation.

This argument somehow crops up in every possible thread. But we do not get more snowfall than snow melt, it's a myth. If you believe otherwise, please show specific historical evidence of higher snowfall leading to significantly later melt-out date in some location. Best to do so in one of the appropriate threads - NHEM snow cover, or Negative feedback of positive snowfall anomalies.

Ice free arctic ocean.  How much lake effect snow will we get downwind from an ice free arctic?  More than 60 feet and we start to look at rebuilding the north American ice sheet.

Remember, the albedo flip only works when temperatures drop enuf that precipitation is snow, and not rain. Every projection i have seen calls for increased rain/snow ratio.

An ice free Arctic is more llike the tail that's wagging the dog here.
The Indian ocean is more than four times larger than the Arctic ocean. The Atlantic more than five times and the Pacific more than ten... All of the oceans are more than 23 times the size of the Arctic ocean.

You have it wrong. +10C in winter and -10C in summer = 0C change relative to today but +200% snowfall avg. It is the changes in between the seasons masking the overall huge increase in snowfall. We will see global cooling first in SUMMER not winter (IMO).

Temperatures do not have to drop for albedo flip to happen, they simply have to allow for enough accumulation that melt does not occur sufficiently through summer, paradoxically that is achieved through WARMER wintertime temperatures which allow for much more moisture and vastly more snowfall.

In other words, it'll be a cold day in July before we see any global cooling.

More seriously, I've seen this concept of approaching NHemisphere glaciation several times on the forum.  It strikes me as ludicrous, regardless of how much wintertime snow falls.

But I can understand the proposed mechanism.  If the mechanism were valid, we'd already see a trend of increasing snow cover on land in the N Hemisphere during July/August.  Is there a shred of data around to confirm such a trend?

Where will I post my speculation/hypothesis about the future of the Arctic? (and the Northern Hemisphere, the Earth, the Solar System, the Universe and the infinity of Alternative Universes)

"Ice-free Arctic" ? Nah.
"Melting Season - Predictions and Speculation" Nah.
"Arctic Sea Ice Forum Humo(u)r". Nah

I know. "Weird Weather and anecdotal stories about climate change".

So where do I put my posts about "Weird Weather and anecdotal stories about climate change"?

I know. "Russiagate".

Seriously bbr, start a thread for your hypothesis and keep it contained.  I'm sick of reading about it in places it has no relevance.

I agree. Last year it was the ice pack breaking in two, now it's the coming ice age. You've made your point, this is a long-term one, so there's no sense in writing updates every week. We'll discuss it again at the end of the melting season.

Public information officers reported good compliance with mandatory evacuation orders.

Powerful storm brought much-needed rain to California
Quote
LOS ANGELES (AP) - The storm that drenched California this week brought much-needed rain to the state, which has been slipping back into drought conditions due to a dry winter that only turned wet and snowy this month.

Preliminary storm data Friday showed some stunning totals for the three-day storm, including more than 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rain at some locations in the Sierra Nevada and on the central coast, and 31 inches (79 centimeters) of snow at Tuolumne Meadows in the Sierra. ...

Late season cyclone Nora about to hit Queensland as a forecasted Cat4. Considering the ocean temps (~30°C) I wouldn't be surprised if it reach Cat5.

Nora might do a Harvey:
http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml
Quote
On the current forecast track, Nora is expected to move back over southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters during Monday and if this were to occur it is possible that it could reform back into a tropical cyclone by Tuesday. However, given the forecast track of Nora is quite close to the coast, the possibility of it moving back over water sooner cannot be ruled out.
JTWC has it going in over land.

Spring is here so are storms:

severe-weather.EU @severeweatherEU 3h3 hours ago: "Here we go! Squall line (line of thunderstorms) moving across southern Italy right now. Over 3000 lightning flashes in 2 hours, not bad!"
See how it moves here, check "Blitze".

European Storm Forecast Experiment:

"A level 2 was issued across parts of the Ionian Sea, the Aegean Sea and Greece for large to very large hail, excessive rain, severe wind gusts and a few tornadoes. A strong tornado event can't be ruled out." Details at http://www.estofex.org/

What they do not say is that in sync with it comes also Marsian Attack II.

Edit: previously,  Marsian Attack I at Café.

Low Sea Ice Means Big Risks for Little Diomede
Along the Bering Sea, where ice formation limped along this season, communities that are normally protected by coastal ice packed in along the shore were left exposed to open water and the ravages of high winds and storm waves.

A Heat Wave Left Arctic Sea Ice Near a Record Winter Low. This Town Is Paying the Price.
The second-lowest winter sea ice extent on record has isolated Bering Sea native communities and put coastal residents at the mercy of storms and waves.

the current forecast where I live in N. Ireland for next Monday thru Wed. is for a 48 hour blizzard with temps dipping to a feels like -11'C .. . What's been happening in the Bering may have a bearing on our unbelievable outlook .. b.c.

It may have a bearing.  More likely they are different aspects of the same system.  Often when one area is abnormally hot, another is cold, and when one is abnormally dry, another is wet.  The weather gets shifted, due to various currents.

Or go to Pakistan !

The temperature at Nawabshah maxed at 45.5 C today.

A new national monthly record. (and only 0.1 C lower than the Asian March record).
