Shell abandons drilling in the Arctic for 2013
« on: February 28, 2013, 11:27:37 PM »
These are good news ! . Let's hope they won't be ready for 2014 either... and that Obama will cancel those permits.
This forum helps me to feel less uncomfortable about "doing something" about the melting Arctic and the warming world.

Excellent News, in fact. Such good news that I think this topic belongs under "Policy and solutions" in the Forum!

Let's hope renewables ramp up so quickly that the folly of Arctic drilling will be so obvious as to make it political poison.

That's great news. Now I don't have to call on the masses to start protesting.  :)

The Department of the Interior report came out a few days ago, and says of Shell:

Quote
This review has confirmed that Shell entered the drilling season not fully prepared in terms of fabricating and testing certain critical systems and establishing the scope of its operational plans. The lack of adequate preparation put pressure on Shell’s overall operations and timelines at the end of the drilling season.

etc. etc.

This is good news indeed, but why is it in the Greenland section?

Well, it is the Greenland AND Arctic Circle category. Could've gone into the Arctic Sea Ice or Consequences section, but this will do. Maybe what's needed is a central drilling thread, but we'll reconsider it in 2015, or hopefully later.
