Espen, is there an image from October 2016 for this area, to compare?

I noticed it on the satellite because of the apparent coastal run-off showing at the moment. A search of the forum led me to your incredibly detailed animations here. Thank you!

In the lower left quadrant it looks like the ice expanded in one small area in 2014, however 2015 showed significant retreat.

I'd love to see a Landsat 8 image from early October 2016---the magnification is incredible on the ones Espen posted. I don't know if there is some way to get that with the lance modis? Apologies, I am totally useless at anything techie.

The date of crandles' image is Sep 26 (day 270)
Landsat 8 images can be downloaded from https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/
It's not the most user friendly site, but it's a good technological hurdle to overcome.

Alternatively you can use Amazon Web Services. They recently integrated Landsat 8 images into their Sentinel 2 image search. You can even look at the images in your browser without downloading them or using a special software.

Yes day 270. I looked though about a dozen days in Oct but they were cloudy or it had snowed after day 290.

My thanks to you as well, tealight. I will have a closer look at AWS for sure. Finding my way around the various satellite image sites is a challenge, but also quite an addictive pastime.

Thanks for this interesting animation I just discovered.
I wonder when the big lake on the eastern side of this big ice field may find its way through the ice and possibly destroy parts of the south-eastern edge of it?!?

Is there an update available of the current status?

The lake is Kangârssûp Taserssua and the ice holding it back seems to be about 500m across. I don't think it will hold for very many years.
