A friend of mine had major heart surgery almost thirty years ago - he treated it as a "wake up" call, and made a lot of changes to his lifestyle. More careful food and drink choices, more exercise, as recommended by doctors.
Also, he started to make a major effort to keep in touch with friends, make new ones and develop new interests. He's a much more lively and interesting person than he was before he went into hospital. As Blum was already a lively and interesting person, I expect he'll do very well.
